I’m so glad that I subscribe to the West Seattle Blog…if I didn’t, I would have missed their alert to "Quick! Rush to the Beach!"
Wine Reviews
Gary Vay-Ner-Chuck of Wine Library TV is so funny, I just had to share this with you. Even better, his wine reviews are straight on. I know we’re not the only wine-o’s in the neighborhood…here is his review of 2006 Mollydooker. 2005 Mollydookers had an almost cult-like following with very high ratings from Robert Parker last year.
We have purchased some of the 2006 econ-line (around $20) and so far, we prefer The Boxer. The 2006 Two Left Feet is not comparing to the 2005. Unfortunately, this review does not cover Boxer.
The good news is that (the last time I checked) West Seattle Thriftway has some Mollydooker stored "in the back". You need you need to request it if you’re interested. Esquinn may have some dooky, too.
I’ve added a link to Wine Library TV to the bottom left of this site.
Cheers!
Clarification on the Block Party
I’m hoping to avoid possible confusion regarding the Seattle Night Out 2007 event taking place on August 7. I know I’m posting information about our neighborhood’s block party event, it is intended to be for "Block Watch" purposes and to get to know immediate neighbors better. It is not a "block party" where everyone from West Seattle drops by. This is coordinated with the Seattle Police Department and the Fire Departments in effort to curb crime by getting to know your immediate neighbor better.
If you’re block/area of Beach Drive is having a block watch event to celebrate Seattle Night Out 2007, I’m happy to post it.
You can also check with the Seattle Police Department to see if your block is has any events planned or if you would like to coordinate one.
Alki Art Fair this weekend
Bellevue may have their big art fair this weekend…
and so do we!
Meeting tomorrow regarding The Painted Lady
I received a message regarding from The Landmarks, a preservation group that they asked me to share with neighbors.
The Landmarks preservation Board is having a meeting this Friday regarding the proposed development of the front lawn of the Satterlee House – also known as the Painted Lady — the old Victorian style home at 4866 Beach Dr. SW. …It is open to the public and I encourage any neighbor who has an interest in what is going to be built there to attend the meeting. Currently, the front lawn has been subdivided into 3 building lots. IF the house is not sold as an entire parcel with the front yard, there will be three homes built on the front lawn. The Satterlee House is a designated Historic Landmark — there are many who believe, having read the designation, that the entire setting is protected as a a Landmark. If there is any interest in this issue, we urge anyone to attend.
The meeting takes place at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2007 at the Seattle Municipal Tower, 700 5th Avenue, 40th Floor, Room 4070.
Stuff the Bus–Diaper Drive
Stuff the Bus is taking place at the West Seattle Farmers Market this Sunday, July 29th from 10-2. Please bring disposable diapers to donate. This event benefits WestSide Baby, a non-profit organization who has helped over 15,000 South King County families in need during 2005-2006.

Sharrows on Beach Drive
Thanks again to West Seattle Blog. They just posted information about the "sharrows" along Beach Drive, which BDB addressed last week. If you attend the Alki Community Council meetings, then this is old news for you. If not, click this link to get the scoop from WSB.
- Sharrows are designed to let drivers know bicyclist are on the road, too (duh).
- There will be times when we will not be allowed to park on Beach Drive while the City implements the Sharrow Lanes. We are suppose to have a 72 hour notice before they restrict our parking.
I’m sorry…a bit of a rant here, you would think our fine City officials would get the word out to those of us who were not present at the ACC meeting last Thursday.
Maybe the sharrows will get the adult bicyclist off the sidewalks and onto the roads, um, I mean sharrow….
Sights and sounds from the West Seattle Hi-Yu Parade
I just uploaded a video to share with you that we had from our vantage point from the parade.
We wound up planting ourselves on Charleston and California and it was kind of odd to be between two buildings that may be no more. I love these apartments. I don’t know if it’s the sloped roof line or the bricks. I can’t imagine anything as lovely to my eyes will be replacing them.
Every so often, I noticed employees of the Charleston Cafe peaking through the trees to catch a bit of the parade…I’m sure they were on breaks!
Last, but not least, check out this drill team (not sure if that’s what you call this talented group)…they are amazing!
At least it didn’t rain on our parade!
This is pretty close to a perfect day for me…a "home town parade" with JP Patches and afterwards…we went to the Alki Hot Rod Show. There were a few times we thought the rain would sneak in but it held back until the show was finished (or did the show finish because of a few sprinkles?)…regardless, this is my definition of a very fun Saturday.
