How to Subscribe to Beach Drive Blog

A reader of Beach Drive Blog (or do I dare say…BDB) told me that he thought he had subscribed to receive updates from the blog via email, but he was not sure that it was working.    Here are some easy steps for how to receive any new posts made to this blog to be emailed to  you.

Step 1) Enter your email address in the box to the right and push the button that says Get email updates.

Step 2) You will be redirected to a website that will ask you to enter a code (this is to prevent spammers and spam-bots).

Subscribebdb_1

Step 3) You will receive an email from "feedblitz@mail.feedblitz.com.  This is the service that BDB utilizes for delivering updates via email.  You will need to click on the link that instructs you to confirm you want the subscription to Beach Drive Blog.

Step 4) You will be directed to a web site that will confirm that you will receive updates from BDB.  You may want to add "feedblitez@mail.feedblitz.com" as an approved sender to your address book to avoid having the updates wind up in your junk file.

  • You will never be spammed
  • It’s FREE
  • No update, no email
  • Update = email
  • You can unsubscribe at anytime…but why would you do a silly thing like that?

It’s An Absolute Honor

A few weeks ago (I think we had just our first post), I asked to be linked on West Seattle Blog’s site.  Understandably, the response was that they would like to wait a little while to see how our blog does.   Many start with great intentions and fizzle out fast.   The West Seattle Blog is THE Granddaddy of blogs in our neighborhood, if not the fine city of Seattle… so to receive this nod today really means more than I can say!   Thank you, thank you very much!

JP Patches and Gertrude

The Log House Museum Needs YOU!

I have been contacted by some of the fine folks at The Log House Museum.   They are looking for volunteers for greeters/docents, gift shop clerks, data processing/office workers, gardeners and especially techies to revamp their website.   During the summer, they hope to recruit teens and older to do storytelling along the beach about early settlers and Native Americans.     It’s a great place to visit to learn more about the history of West Seattle and our community.

Do you have a little extra time?  Please contact Andrea Mercado at 206-938-5293.

What About Bob?

Dsc_0329_2Bob is the name given to the seal that visits up and the bulk head along Beach Drive.    Sometimes he’s not alone…but usually he is solo.    He seems to know when my camera is out of reach and THAT is when he makes his appearance.   I’ve been trying to capture a good photo of Bob…he’s on to me!

We use to see otter, too.  Unfortunately, my neighbor and I saw one that was hit by a car last fall.  I’m hoping we see more.

If you have a photo of Bob that you have taken…send it to me, I would love to post it on the blog.

Don’t Miss the Boat…or Explorer West’s Auction

Explorer West will be holding their 7th annual dinner and auction on the evening Mcj038258900001_1 of March 17th at the Jerry Brockey Student Center at South Seattle Community College.

This year’s theme is “All Aboard the S.S. Explorer West!”  I can’t even imagine what the talented folks at Explorer West are dreaming up for this adventure.  Last year, the auction’s theme evolved around Paris.   When you entered the room, you were greeted by a 30 foot tall Eiffel Tower (including the light show) and felt as though you had stepped into a street side bistro.   I’ve gone to several school auctions in my lifetime, this one amazed me.  The school is still procuring items for the auction as well.  If you would like to attend this event and/or donate the the auction to support the only independent private middle school in West Seattle, please contact Kathleen at Explorer West.

This Time Last Year

I was on my morning walk with Orson and I had the pleasure of seeing our neighbor, Eddy.   We started chatting and he reminded me that it was this time last year that my husband and I went through our first storms (2 in one week) in our home.  A big thanks (again) to Eddy, Brenda and Bob for bailing us out last February.  Invigorating…don’t you think?   Looking at our calm weather today…you would never guess this could happen.   What a difference a year makes!

The December to Remember

The National Weather Service held a contest to name our wonderful storm we had last December.    We were out of power for 6 days with 3 teens, 3 cats and one pug snuggled up in our bedroom…cozy!   I just checked their site and we have to wait a few more weeks before they announce the storm’s official name on March 2nd at 1pm.  For the record, we submitted "The December to Remember".    NWS only has 5,000 storm names to choose from…I don’t like our odds!

Demographics

I recently stumbled across this site which has very interesting demographics by zip code.  Neighborloo  Click on each item to see how our area pencils out.   Click here to check it out.
