I don’t go to The Charlestown very often…I’m not sure why. Now that it may be closing…I’m tempted to go there (kind of like driving dow the viaduct). I do know it’s been a gathering spot in West Seattle for ions. To read more…click here.
Help for Lost and Found Pets
Note: Please email me as soon as possible and I’ll do a post on your lost or found Beach Drive Pet. Including a photo is also helpful. Beach Drive Blog has a pretty good success ratio on reuniting pets to homes.
Last year, some neighbors and I found a lost dog. He (or she) was obviously someone’s missing pet. I made posters and had them on many telephone poles up and down Beach Drive. Luckily, for our cats and one-eyed pug, a friend of the owner found us walking the dog the night before tucking it in that evening.
Here are a few helpful websites I found during this event where you can post lost or found pets:
Please let me know if I’m missing any resources for our lost and found pets. We all want our pets home…safe and sound.
Lost Cat
"Wookie" was last seen on Monday. She does have a tag and is about one year old with long hair black and grey tabby markings. She is really missed by her family.
If I receive a photo from the family or when Wookie is found, I will update this post.
Update: Wookie has been found!
Historic Homes Tax Credit Program
With over 24% of the homes on Beach Drive built before 1930, I thought this article in the Seattle Times may be of interest to you. Click here to read more…
The Barking Dog Report
When we have wind, waves and a high tide, my husband calls me a "barking dog". I’m sure he means this affectionately. Can you blame me when we have gone through 3 storms last year with waves splashing over our bulk head?
Early this morning was enough to have me running from window to window to see if we had water sloshing over. It was a close call–just a little excitement and a little less sleep. Now, I’m not a weather forecaster nor any type of expert of the sort. I just read my tide chart calendar and check out the marine forecast.
Here is the Puget Sound marine forecast (this changes throughout the day so check back if you need to) as of 8:25 a.m. this morning:
…SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON…
TODAY…SW WIND 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. SHOWERS.
TONIGHT…SW WIND 10 TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT. SHOWERS.
MON…SW WIND 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. RAIN.
MON NIGHT…SW WIND 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT.
For us, the southwest winds have proven to be the most troublesome and entertaining. This morning’s high tide was 12.4 at 5:46 a.m. Tomorrow’s high tide is 12.7 at 6:13 a.m. Factor in southwest winds with 2-4 feet waves and I’m sure I’ll be running from window to window again tomorrow morning watching those waves to make sure they’re on the right side of the bulkhead.
Well, that’s my "Barking Dog Report" for this morning. Please don’t rely on this information…just consider me a yapping dog in the neighborhood.
Because It’s Friday
Seriously though… since we’re talking about wine and it is a Friday… I thought I should share with you one of our favorite tools with regards to vino. Cellar Tracker is an on-line free (they ask for a donation) system for tracking and organizing your wine collection. It’s also great for reading fellow enophiles reviews on your favorite wine. Cheers!
Blustery Morning
Thank goodness we’ve all ready had high tide now that the winds have picked up!
This would be a good time point out that I have weather related links on the lower left column under "Swell Links". I have learned from our short 1.5 years living on Beach Drive to check out the marine forecast along with the tide charts. Luckily, the 3-5 foot swells we’re having now are accompanying just over an 8.0 tide and we did not have these winds at our high tide at 4:36 a.m. this morning. Look out Jeff Renner!
Another Valentine Treat
Not Something to Cheer About
I was reading the West Seattle Blog this morning and learned that one of our family’s favorite restaurants, Guadalajara Hacienda on California Avenue, will be closing this weekend. To read more…click here. Adios Amigos.
Update: February 16, 2007 at 7:14 p.m. Our family just returned from a "farewell dinner" at Guadalajara. It turns out that they did not sell the property, they lost their lease. They hope to reopen in the neighborhood soon.
Earth Art
Along Mee Kwa Mooks Park this morning, my neighbor and I discovered this mysterious earth art that begins at the park bench and travels to the Puget Sound.
The artist must have gathered his materials from across Mee Kwa Mooks where the mud and earth pile from the December storm remains.
Later this morning, another neighbor informed me that a teen worked on this creation a few days ago. I wish I had their energy!
Perhaps the young artist was inspired by Day Light Saving Time being earlier this year on March 11, 2007 or maybe it was a touch of Spring fever?
Who knows….kuddos to the kiddo! What a fun way to start Valentine’s Day.
