High speed sub making wake past Winslow

Spied this sub around 9:30 this morning making it’s way north with a Coast Guard escort. Photo is less than detailed from our distance but the telescope spotted a couple of people with orange vests riding on top…

Great day for a beach cleanup

A dozen or so folks from a young organization named Operation Sound Beach stormed public beaches along Beach Drive this afternoon.  The group is centered out of Snohomish County and mentioned that this is as far south as they’ve been… so far.  If you happen to pass by them this afternoon, please give them your appreciation for the fine volunteer work!

Operation Sound Beach is a citizen-volunteer task force founded and based with the objective of maintaining the purity, cleanliness and uninterrupted beauty of our beaches up and down the Puget Sound coast line. We are not affiliated with any political or religious agenda. We do not hold restrictions over volunteer membership. We are simply Puget Sound citizens taking care of our beloved Puget Sound communities. Long Live Sound Beach!

Watch for spectacular “spray” tomorrow on Beach Drive

Mother Nature’s elements are lining up for quite the show after mid-night tonight & through Friday afternoon. A marine forecast calling for near gale force winds combined with tides ranging from 6 to 10 feet is the recipe for huge spray coming off Beach Drive bulkheads. Unlike last December’s storm which flooded several homes along the coastline, tomorrow’s tides are several feet lower.

Great spots to get wet include Emma Schmitz Memorial Overlook and Charles Richey Sr View Point (Constellation Park).

Scupper reports that the cost of this salvage is being paid for by the derelict boat fund which is a $3 additional fee on boat tabs. For the record, the Skipper’s tabs on his power boat are up to date.

UPDATE 10:08 am: More video of the salvaging of the trimaran.

The Skipper has his boat!

Thanks to a couple of good people in our community, the “Skipper” has his power boat out of Puget Sound waters by Cormorant Cove Park and Harbor West Condominiums.

I’m sure he really appreciates the kind help he had from the West Seattle community and beyond during this unfortunate event.

Anyone have a winch to help out “The Skipper”

The “Skipper” of the sunken trimaran is trying to rescue his power boat. He is at the boat ramp at Cormorant Cove Park by Harbor West Condos (3701 Beach Drive SW). The ramp does not allow motorized vehicles so could use a little help – and he needs it soon or he’ll be fighting the tides which are going out around 11:30 this morning.

If someone has a motorized winch – something attached to their 4×4 vehicle that he could use to pull his trailer and boat up and then hook up to his van, the “Skipper” will be on his way.  He’s trying to save the last of his boat.

He would greatly appreciate any help.

A couple neighbors from the condos across the street were awoken from the noise. One neighbor said it was so loud, they thought it was in their building.

Found: Gym Bag

We received this message last night from a BD neighbor:

This morning where 59th turns into Chilberg (corner with SW Douglas pl)- was a gym bag that had looked ruffled through, clothes pouring out of it, it seems as if someone had stolen it and gone through it then tossed it out. The clothes are nice outdoor and gym clothing – at least if the bag was stolen from someone’s car last night, they can get their clothing back?? Or if they drove off with it on top of their car?? I left it out on the corner hoping it was a neighbors, but no one has claimed it.

Several Police Cars on Beach Drive

Moments ago, we counted six or seven police cars on Beach Drive by Emma Schmitz View Point.

From the West Seattle Blog:

If you’ve seen the police response near Me-Kwa-Mooks Park and are wondering what’s going on: Police were looking for someone reported to be possibly in danger of harming himself, and, according to scanner traffic, found him, and were calling in an ambulance to get him some help.
