What a beautiful day to see the USS John C. Stennis navigate back home to Bremerton. Here are a few of the photos we captured.
Car Prowled yesterday
I received this email from on of our neighbors:
“ I live at 3800 block of Beach Drive and someone went through my car… they just looked through it and took a couple of things…”
Just a reminder to keep you doors locked and to call the police when something like this happens.
Talk’n Lings and Shrimp’n in the hood this week!
Have I mentioned lately just how great this time of year is around here??? Ling cod season opened this glorious morning with boats swarming the south Alki Rock Pile or what we call “Mediation Reef” from an earlier post.

Popular Ling Cod fishery located just off the 4800 block of Beach Drive
… and if that wasn’t enough excitement to float your boat, the short Spotted Shrimp season starts this Saturday morning! A good local shrimp hole is along the NE side of Vashon Island. Get you telescope out and check out the hundred or so boats pulling up the scrumptious booty from 250 feet below the surface. These fine crustaceans are considered some of the finest shrimp in the entire world!!

Orson Memorial Water Bowl unveiling Monday 4/15/13 at 7PM (water fountain @ Emma Schmitz Overlook Park)
If we had a category for this post it would read “Just for the helluvit”! The idea comes from an unknown kind soul that planted a purple bowl beneath the drinking fountain last year for all our 4 legged friends to drink out of. That bowl must have blown away during one of the winter storms so… we want to pay it forward this year with a stainless dog bowl in memory of an old friend named Orson that used to hobble (on a good day) out to that section of Emma Schmitz park. Rain or shine, bring your walking buddy out to the fountain at 7:00 tomorrow night for the first slurp of the season!

Orson walked the strip from 2005 to 2012
Bailey & Rosie, Sophie, Oliver, the baying hounds, Ottie & Sailer, Seyward, Winston, Gizmo, Cheeto & Paddy, Molly, Sammy, Tazi and the rest of ya tail waggers are cordially invited!
LOST CAT: Have you seen Isis?
This just in from a Beach Drive neighbor on the 4700 block:
I came home tonight to discover that one of our cats had gotten out while we were away. She is a small grey cat, missing one eye. She is not wearing a collar, as she’s an indoor cat. She’s pretty skittish, and doesn’t like to be held, but will come to my voice.
We are fostering her and do not know if she is micro-chipped.
If you see Isis, please call 206-601-0113.

Have You Seen a Missing Buoy
This email came in last night from a Beach Drive neighbor:
My neighbor’s large round mooring buoy broke loose last week. It’s white with black numbers. It floated away from the 5400 block of Beach Drive. She’s asking anyone sighting it to please call 206-734-5992.
Spring seal pup beached near sidewalk at Emma Schmitz Viewpoint
A Beach Drive resident & his dog kept a tight perimeter around the site of a snoozing young seal pup this morning. He quickly acted on the situation by alerting Seal Sitters which he happened to volunteer with in a prior year.

Updated Information!
Hi Rhonda,
Thanks so much for the coverage of seal pup Shamrock at Emma Schmitz yesterday. However, I thought your readers would want to know that all harbor seal pups right now are weaned and anywhere from 6-8 months old. There are no pups waiting for mom to come back for them as reported in the post. 🙂
Harbor seal pupping season is late June – September in Puget Sound. Seal pupping season will be beginning, however, shortly on the outer coast of Washington and Oregon. Here is a link to a map that shows months pupping seasons in the various regions of Washington State:

LOST CAT: Have you seen Charlie?

charlie
This message is from Charlie’s human/owner:
HELP! I’M LOST!
My name is Charlie. I live at 54th & Alki. I am a 3-year-old orange and white fixed male cat, and I went missing on Thursday 07 March around 8:00PM. I am an indoor cat, and if I ever get outdoors I usually hide, making it difficult for you to see me. I am pretty skittish around other cats and animals, but am known to be pretty vocal when called by name. I would really like to be returned to my home, so if you have seen me recently or know where I am, please contact my owner.
Thank you!
