Ya Otter not swim in that orange stuff…

As I was un-admiring the creamsicle bloom just south of Emma Schmitz View Point, I spotted this fast approaching critter heading north along the beach.

Sure enough, the River Otter headed right for the muck! (Noctiluca blooms are not harmful to pets, us or wildlife)

The next centurion is actually a remodel that was finished up in 1913 replacing a lens-lantern atop a wooden post. This is an excerpt from Lighthouse Friends .Com

After the government purchased an octagonal parcel at the tip of the point from Edmund Hansen for a sum of $9,999. the present concrete fog signal building with attached, thirty-seven foot octagonal tower was completed on April 29th, 1913, and the station was activated a few weeks later on June 1.

Beach Drive Arial Photos from 1937!

Was your home still a vacant lot in 1937? You can search King County Map Vault by Section Township Range to see how your lot appeared “back in the day”. Use this reference photo to locate your particular map section…

Jacobson Rd is located in Section 22. Lowman Cove is shared in both 27 & 26

Here’s an example of how present day Mee-Kwa-Mooks Park appeared back when it was occupied by West Seattle pioneers Ferdinand & Emma Schmitz…

Car Prowled yesterday

I received this email from on of our neighbors:

“ I live at 3800 block of Beach Drive and someone went through my car… they just looked through it and took a couple of things…”

Just a reminder to keep you doors locked and to call the police when something like this happens.

Talk’n Lings and Shrimp’n in the hood this week!

Have I mentioned lately just how great this time of year is around here??? Ling cod season opened this glorious morning with boats swarming the south Alki Rock Pile or what we call “Mediation Reef” from an earlier post.

Popular Ling Cod fishery located just off the 4800 block of Beach Drive

… and if that wasn’t enough excitement to float your boat, the short Spotted Shrimp season starts this Saturday morning! A good local shrimp hole is along the NE side of Vashon Island. Get you telescope out and check out the hundred or so boats pulling up the scrumptious booty from 250 feet below the surface. These fine crustaceans are considered some of the finest shrimp in the entire world!!
