Memorial Day

These photos are from a family trip to D.C. back on our Spring Break of 2004.   I thought I would share them with you to honor those who have served our country.

Beach Drive cottage…safe for now.

I adore this house and wish I coulda woulda bought it when it was on the market.   I am tickled pink to see the work being done (stone fireplace and it looks like it’s being prepped for paint) which indicates this beauty will not be torn down.     I have not lived on Beach Drive long enough to know the lady that lived here before…I’ve heard a fond story or two.     It’s been interesting to watch the renovation in progress.

Garage Sale this weekend… tell ’em you heard it from the blog…

I believe this is going on all weekend.

Update 5/25/2007:  I witnessed the ladies putting their signs out this morning and the garage sale is going on all weekend.

Traffic Alert

Thanks to West Seattle Blog… there is a traffic alert towards the south end of Beach Drive.   How does WSB do it?  Spies… creatures from outer space… esp?   They are EVERYWHERE…lucky for us!

This guy is waiting for his pizza…

It’s funny…one of the post BDB has received most comments on from readers is about pizza preferences.   This will be my first time trying Garlic Jims.   I have ordered the Chicken BBQ for my son…and since I’m trying to shed a few pounds (I tried to talk him out of pizza tonight, and being the sap of a mom I am), I ordered the spinach artichoke with thin crust.    What pushed us over was Isaac’s comment on the original post.   Isaac, we’re counting on you!

This heron sat on a neighbors fence for hours this morning.   Maybe my neighbors eat small fish for breakfast and the heron was waiting for some leftovers?  He never changed position much.   I’d check every once in while between phone calls and emails (work).    It was a nice amusing break in my day.

Update:  My son like’s the pizza, his first word was "Wow" and then… that he thinks the thick crust is too thick.   Since I’m just starting a diet…I’m too crabby to talk about food.  It was pretty good.  Lots of garlic (I picked my cloves off).

How Does Your Beach Stack Up?

You say tomato, I say…

I’m getting ready to attempt my first tomato garden…along with some lettuce and what ever else grabs my attention at the nursery.    The garden will have to be in containers and I’m trying to figure out the best spot for these delictables where our wild life might leave them alone so we can enjoy "the fruits of our my labor".

Pictured above is Early Girl and Sweet Million Cherry Tomatoes along with some lettuce.   Below is Italian and Curly Leaf Parsley (ya gotta have parsley with your tomatoes).

I just need to plant some Basil and then I’m ready for Bruschetta!  Yummy.

Are the Anna’s Hummingbird’s back?

This neat blog I stumbled across this morning, West Seattle Birdcam, says they are!   We’ve noticed a few buzzing around our yard, but not as often as during winter.

How low can you go?

Yesterday’s low tide was a minus 3.3 at 1:22 p.m.  …not quite as low as Friday’s which was a minus 3.8.
