Brunch at The Bohemian

Our family enjoyed a Saturday brunch at The Bohemian the other weekend.    They  P2280003 have a fun menu and the kids were thrilled with the French Toast stuffed with peanut butter and bananas.

I enjoyed a smoked salmon eggs benedict and my husband had a delish cast-iron skillet with French press "drip" coffee.

The next time we go, I may have to try one of their crepes.P2280001

Ama Ama’s Amazing Brunch

I'm sorry it's taken us this long to visit Ama Ama Oyster Bar and Grill.  What a terrific restaurant.  We went with our three teens for brunch today.  I like the atmosphere and the food is even better.

My husband and I began our brunch with a Smokin' Mary.   She's one hot mama–maybe a little too hot for me, even though I enjoy chipolte.   We requested some fresh  Amacajuneggsbenedict raw oysters on the side–it's a terrific pairing with the Bloody Marys.

I had the Creole Eggs Benedict which was delish!  Poached eggs rest on top of smoked seafood cakes and are topped with a spicy hollandaise sauce.

My hubby enjoyed the Huevos Rancheos with scrambled eggs and chorizo piled into a bowl.

Two teens had ham and cheese omletes…no complaints were heard.  One teen had to French Toast that was heavenly.  The thick slabs of bread were fluffy and light.Amahuevos

I can't wait to go back and try dinner!  Our photos do NOT do the food justice-they're via my cell phone.

Ama Ama Oyster Bar and Grill is located at 4752 California Avenue SW, Seattle.   They open daily at 4:30 pm with a Saturday and Sunday Brunch from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Announcing Beach Drive Blog Neighborhood Referral List

How many times have you needed a referral for a service or have hired help that you would like to recommend?   Well I’ve done enough emailing around and also have been asked by neighbors myself…"hey, who do you know that…"

It’s time to add a new resource to Beach Drive Blog:  The Beach Drive Blog Neighborhood Referral Resource web-page.

We are not limited by the categories that are listed.   Who has provided excellent service or is a valuable resource that our neighbors may appreciate or need?   Please share!   In order to go on the resource page, we need the following:

  • Contact/Company Name
  • Contact info (phone number, email, web)
  • Testimonial is not required but is a nice feature.   Just a short sentence on why you  willing to recommend this person/company
  • Recommended by…again, not required but the referral will carry more significance if we know who it’s coming from.  Check out the new page and you’ll see what we have so far.

The people you recommend should be someone who’s service you have personally used–or it can even be you!    By the way, if there’s all ready something in a category that you would like to refer someone too–that’s perfectly fine.   The "blank categories" are resources that I’m often asked for referrals to.    I look forward to your emails for recommendations to add to this neighborhood resource!

Beach Drive Neighborhood Referrals is located under "Beach Drive Neighbors" on the left side of this blog.

Eats Market Cafe

Img_6272I’ve been waiting  to check out this highly reviewed restaurant in the heart of Westwood Village…the place was packed and after a ten minute wait (we cruised neighboring shops) we were seated.  We decided to go for our favorite "brunch dish"Img_6273_2…Heuvos Racheros.                          Eats Market Cafe did a nice job…their Heuvos is completely different than Blackbird Bistro’s in West Seattle.   Easts Market Cafe rest the eggs onto of a generous helping of black beans and salsa verde.  The eggs are topped with home made guacamole.

I will have to return to sink my teeth into a Rueben–my favorite sandwich and Iunderstand they may have the best in Seattle.  I’ll report back when I do.

Where is your favorite spot in West Seattle for breakfast?

Illusions Hair Design Review

West Seattle Blog recently announced that Illusions Hair Design is one of their new sponsors (I’m a proud WSB sponsor as well).   I like to support the West Seattle community and was tired of driving to Southcenter for my hair cuts…so I thought would be a good opportunity.

I’m just returning home from Illusions after meeting with Nancy and I’m VERY pleased.   She actually listened to what I wanted from my hair cut (my former stylist, who very nice, had a set idea of what he wanted my hair to look like and would not trim it shorter).  They are professional and friendly…and did you know they are a "no tip" salon?    And they offer free bang trims in between your regular hair cuts.   I also appreciate how committed they are to our community.

What is your favorite West Seattle salon?  We certainly don’t have a shortage of Beauty Salons and Barber Shops in West Seattle…even the pets are well covered in the grooming and care departments!

Seattle Metropolitan’s Best New Restaurants in West Seattle

We have so many excellent dining choices in our small neck of the woods…actually we’re sort of like an island.

The November issue of Seattle Metropolitan Magazine features a couple of well known local favorites as some of the best in Seattle:

Bakery Nouveau

Beato

Pagalicci Pizza, specifically for their Agog Primo…"a legend in the making".

What are your favorite Seattle restaurants?

Great Wine for such a bargin

Dsc_00412004 Mazzaron is a Tempranillo from Spain.

We have really enjoyed this smokey red wine–it’s ready to drink now.

Robert Parker has rated it at 88 points.   Stephen
Tanzer gave this an 89.    Wine Spector was stingy with 86 points.   We would rate it at least 88, if not 89.

Last I checked, it was on sale at Metropolitan Market for just over $12.00!

It’s such a bargin, we just had to share it with you!

Sunday brunch at Blackbird Bistro

Update September 2008:  Blackbird Bistro is closed for business.

Img_5908 Once again, we found ourselves drawn to Blackbird Bistro for a weekend brunch.   My husband stuck with his favorite Huevos Rancheros and I decided to try their breakfast burrito.   It was really tasty!  I especially liked the mole sauce and the chicken sausage.

My husbands kids ordered the yogurt parfait and the french toast (the plain type, not the banana bread one).   I did hear some grumblings across the table that the french toast was too "soggy".    I didn’t have a bite so I can’t confirm or deny!

The service at Blackbird has been top notch.   Your coffee cup and water glass are always full.   We don’t go out all the time for brunch…Blackbird will definitely stay on our lists for good eats in West Seattle.

Best Nachos in West Seattle

According to my husband, this honor should go to The Bamboo Bar & Grill for their Steak Nachos.    We shared a plate the other night when we went to Alki to see Lady Liberty return to her home.

Img_5906The nachos are as good as they look.    The steak is tender, guac’s great.  Lots of fresh toppings and plenty of cheese.

We’ve been pretty happy with the food at Bamboo Grill.

My water glass (water was all I was drinking) was never refilled.   Their service was pretty slow…so if you’re coming for the grub, have patience…prepare yourself for a wait (as you may do at many restaurants along Alki).

Bamboo Bar and Grill is located at 2806 Alki Avenue SW, Seattle.  (206) 937-3023.

The Best Huevos Rancheros in West Seattle

Img_5820

Update September 2008Blackbird Bistro is closed for business.

This is what my husband told me about Blackbird Bistro located on California in West Seattle.    They serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m. and dishing it up until 3:00 p.m.    Being a fan of Huevos…I had to see for myself!

I was actually surprised to see that they are indeed open at 8:30 and on a Saturday.  What a bonus!

They have a nice brunch menu…however we were set Img_5821on the Huevuos Rancheros.

My husband was right.  They are pretty delish.   The tortillas are not fried in grease.   They must be grilled or baked crisp in the oven.   The beans had a mole flavor–everything just tasted very fresh.

The service was nice, too.   Our coffee cups were never empty!

So if you’re looking for a place in West Seattle to have breakfastcheck out Blackbird Bistro.
