Fall is here.

We spent today doing errands to prepare for fall and possible storms.   One stop was to R&R Rentals in Burien where they sale and rent Honda pumps and generators.   If you’re planning on buying one (which I recommend you make a purchase, if you flood) then you may need to order it in advance.  Next, we went up to Ballard to Sutter Home and Hearth to get a new fireplace insert gas logs and burner (our old one rusted).    It was a nice evening to sit by the fireplace.Dsc_0057

It’s not time to freak out…just time to prepare for fall and winter.

Speaking of preparing, there will be a Block Watch Meeting on Tuesday evening for Beach Drive SW around the 46-4800 Blocks.  Neighbors can log on to the password protected BD Neighbor site or email me for more details

Sunday brunch at Blackbird Bistro

Update September 2008:  Blackbird Bistro is closed for business.

Img_5908 Once again, we found ourselves drawn to Blackbird Bistro for a weekend brunch.   My husband stuck with his favorite Huevos Rancheros and I decided to try their breakfast burrito.   It was really tasty!  I especially liked the mole sauce and the chicken sausage.

My husbands kids ordered the yogurt parfait and the french toast (the plain type, not the banana bread one).   I did hear some grumblings across the table that the french toast was too "soggy".    I didn’t have a bite so I can’t confirm or deny!

The service at Blackbird has been top notch.   Your coffee cup and water glass are always full.   We don’t go out all the time for brunch…Blackbird will definitely stay on our lists for good eats in West Seattle.

Estate Sale Tomorrow and Saturday

Estatesale Estate Sale at 4110 Beach Drive SW, Seattle.  Starting tomorrow and ending Saturday at 4.  Heck, the photo says it all!

Do you know the Bagpiper of Beach Drive?

Over the last two summers (since we’ve been on BD), occasionally you would hear the sounds of a bag pipe winding down a beautiful sunset.   From our viewpoint, we could see the bagpiper’s silhouette along the rocks at Emma Schmitz View Point.   It was magical.

This summer, we have not seen or heard the Bagpiper.   Maybe it’s just been our personal misfortune and we’ve just missed his impromptu concerts?  Or maybe he’s relocated or retired his pipes?

We’ve been wondering and so has one of our readers.    If you are or know of this Bagpiper, please speak up.

Update:   The Me-Kwa-Mooks group is hoping to locate him and ask if he could play on the 6th at the sign inauguration.    Please contact Judy for more info.

PS:  I’m told he was heard playing earlier this month!

Baby Seal Alert at 65th and Beach Drive

West Seattle Blog just posted a plea for help.  There is a baby seal (quite possibly the one who’s been floating around here) that is tangled in fishing wire right NOW.

If you have experience in animal rescue, your help is needed at 65th and Beach Drive.

UPDATE 6:09 p.m.:  The baby seal has been saved!  Read WS Blog’s update here.

Name that duck

I flipped through our bird book…however it’s better for decorating a coffee table than finding out what kind of duck this is.

Fire at LaRustica today

I heard the sirens but had no idea… West Seattle Blog has the scoop.

Seal Pup

This fellow was smaller than the seal we call "Bob"…we’re thinking he’s a pup.   He was wading close to shore this morning and decided to "stay in".   Probably after realizing that our beach is not like sandy Alki.
