Our intrepid reporter, Scupper is on the scene of a sailboat that has grounded near the condos off Beach Drive.
We noticed the sailboat, Far Far Away – homeport Sequim, was anchored by Weather Watch Park while on a walk yesterday around noon.
Someone working on the project by Constellation Park informed Scupper that the incident has been called in and the Coast Guard was able to intercept a person leaving the sailboat.
A witness mentioned that the boat was about 400 feet off the shore near a buoy just south of Alki Point when it began its drift near shore.
A marine towing company has been contacted to remove the vessel.

Quick forensics would indicate that either the boat captain or Coast Guard stretched the anchor across the breakwater to the south of the boat to secure it from floating further towards the seawall. This should allow the tow company to float the boat by mid-afternoon. High tide is around 11.2 feet at 6:30 p.m.

The vessel appears to be currently registered and in decent condition other than the rudder shaft partially pushed downward through the hull. (See photo). This will likely need to be addressed before floating the sailboat.

UPDATE: A West Seattle Facebook group reveals that this boat went ashore the day before (Saturday) in the South Sound. A person discovered the “captain” while walking by it who said, “I just fell asleep and woke up beached. I’ll just wait for the tide to come in”.
Thanks to neighbor Michael for the tip!

I received a notice on the Citizen app yesterday about a ‘Man calling for help’ off Mee-Kwa-Mooks. It included a video of a very similar looking sailboat. Same one?
Could be, BoatingBob. We noticed it around noon across from LaRustica when we were talking a walk to Cactus for lunch. On our way back, we noticed that the boom was swinging with the main sheet in the water.
I’ve informed the owner of the boat. The “sleeping captain” is not the owner.
Correction to my last comment, I don’t know about the Saturday “sleeping captain”, whether same person or not. Regardless, I do have the contact info of the owner, they’re traveling back to pick the boat up.
Hopefully the owner is the person/people who are with the boat now.
