Bagpiper on Beach Drive Yesterday

Did you hear the bagpiper yesterday evening?  He was playing at Emma Schmitz Memorial Viewpoint–treating nearby listeners with his solo concert.  It was great timing as we were celebrating  my sister's 40th birthday with family members.

Over a year ago, a Beach Drive Blog reader was curious who the "Beach Drive Bag-Piper" was…I understand this person is not the same musician.   He did a great job–but I can tell you that he doesn't take request (at least not to play Happy Birthday).

Snow Fun!

On the way to the grocery store tonight, we noticed this festive fort being built on 61st just off of Beach Drive.  Very cool!

Something Fun on the Fourth–Picnic at the Log House Museum

This message is from Marcy Johnsen, Trustee of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society:

SWSHS Members Annual Picnic and Fourth of July Celebration

The annual member’s picnic on the 4th of July well, that just seems to be the right way to reconnect and revitalize ourselves.

Not a member yet?  Come on over-join the Historical Society and support the Log House Museum!   Hamburgers (beef and veggie), hot dogs, and all the fixings will be provided by the SWSHS.  You bring a favorite side dish, the people, and stories you’d like to share about your life experiences.   Music, door prizes, and a raffle will round out the day’s fun.

This event is always a success because YOU make sure it does!

When:  Friday, July 4th from 12:00 noon – 3pm

Where:  Log House Museum Courtyard, Rain or Shine!

*If you’d like to volunteer to help with the picnic, please call the Log House Museum at 206-938-5293 and leave a message for Marcy.

Today: April 3, 2008 is Good People Day

If you know me at all, then you know I’m a wine lover.  I also get a kick out of Gary Vanderchuk, a wine reviewer who uses funny, easy to understand terms for us "normal" folks who don’t know what lychee, bilberry or acacia smell like.   The burgandy colored Wine Library TV badge on the lower left side of this blog is a link to his wine reviews.

Good People Day is all about recognizing all the fine folks in our lives.  Gary is trying to do this via the web and fellow bloggers.   I can’t help but support his efforts.

I’d like to recognize all our neighbors, BDB readers, friends and family and all who do good.   Thanks, Guys, you’re the BEST!

Spread the word!

Extra 2008 Calendars

I ordered too many calendars for 2008.   They have a photo of Alki when the Statue of Liberty returned on September 11, 2007.   If you would like to have one…just let me know.   They are 8.5 x 11 with all months on the page with the color photo.
