Last Nights Sunset Pre-Thunder

A friend of mine noticed that the thunderstorm started about the time it was announced the Sonics are leaving Seattle.

Another Beach Drive Tear Down

This property is located at 6321 Beach Drive SW and just received approval to be torn down.

Just a year ago in July, King County public records show that this home sold for 2.1 million and that last month, the City of Seattle required the current owners to record a covenant, acknowledgment of risk and indemnity agreement in a "potential land slide area".

Announcing Beach Drive Blog Neighborhood Referral List

How many times have you needed a referral for a service or have hired help that you would like to recommend?   Well I’ve done enough emailing around and also have been asked by neighbors myself…"hey, who do you know that…"

It’s time to add a new resource to Beach Drive Blog:  The Beach Drive Blog Neighborhood Referral Resource web-page.

We are not limited by the categories that are listed.   Who has provided excellent service or is a valuable resource that our neighbors may appreciate or need?   Please share!   In order to go on the resource page, we need the following:

  • Contact/Company Name
  • Contact info (phone number, email, web)
  • Testimonial is not required but is a nice feature.   Just a short sentence on why you  willing to recommend this person/company
  • Recommended by…again, not required but the referral will carry more significance if we know who it’s coming from.  Check out the new page and you’ll see what we have so far.

The people you recommend should be someone who’s service you have personally used–or it can even be you!    By the way, if there’s all ready something in a category that you would like to refer someone too–that’s perfectly fine.   The "blank categories" are resources that I’m often asked for referrals to.    I look forward to your emails for recommendations to add to this neighborhood resource!

Beach Drive Neighborhood Referrals is located under "Beach Drive Neighbors" on the left side of this blog.

Re-Announcing The Beach Drive Babbler: They Yell at Clams

I can’t think of a better way to start summer then unveiling "The Beach Drive Babbler" aka "Rambling Embers". Sit back, enjoy the sunset and the beginning of hopefully some warm weather. Relax and listen to the tales of "They Yell at Clams".

Note:  This was originally posted on June 20, 2008 to celebrate the first day of summer.  Unfortunately, we had video issues so I’m reposting this (now that it’s been corrected) so this post can have "more time in the sun".

The Smelliest Flower on Beach Drive

If you’re walking past the 4700 area of Beach Drive and get a terrible whiff; someone did not leave out their rotting garbage, it’s simply a scent of the Voodoo Lily.   This one just blossomed this morning…don’t worry, the flower only lasts (along with the odor) for a few days!   Be glad this photo isn’t "scratch and sniff"!

Something Fun on the Fourth–Picnic at the Log House Museum

This message is from Marcy Johnsen, Trustee of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society:

SWSHS Members Annual Picnic and Fourth of July Celebration

The annual member’s picnic on the 4th of July well, that just seems to be the right way to reconnect and revitalize ourselves.

Not a member yet?  Come on over-join the Historical Society and support the Log House Museum!   Hamburgers (beef and veggie), hot dogs, and all the fixings will be provided by the SWSHS.  You bring a favorite side dish, the people, and stories you’d like to share about your life experiences.   Music, door prizes, and a raffle will round out the day’s fun.

This event is always a success because YOU make sure it does!

When:  Friday, July 4th from 12:00 noon – 3pm

Where:  Log House Museum Courtyard, Rain or Shine!

*If you’d like to volunteer to help with the picnic, please call the Log House Museum at 206-938-5293 and leave a message for Marcy.

How to Report a Hot Tip or Story Idea — Contact Me!

A neighbor mentioned to me that it can be challenging to easily find my contact info on Beach Drive Blog–we don’t want that!   Therefore, thanks to her tip, I’ve added to the upper left corner, my email information.

The more Beach Drive neighbors participate with the blog, the better it will be for all.    Here’s just a few examples of what you can email to us:

  • Photos of local events, wildlife, etc.
  • Missing or found pets
  • Garage, Yard Sales or free stuff
  • Your opinions of things that impact our neighborhoods
  • Restaurant reviews

Just scroll down the Categories section (to the right) and you’ll get an idea of what we’re looking for!

Simply email me and I’ll post it for you.   You can be anonomous (submitted by a Beach Drive Neighbor) or get credit for your content (thanks to Jane Doe for this photo)…please let me know.

While I’ve made it easier for you to contact me, you can also network with me at the following places:
