The Alki Light House is open for tours every weekend from 1:00 – 4:00 pm until Labor Day.
It's an amazing bit of Seattle history and a beautiful place to visit. Established in 1887, the current tower was first lit in 1913, the lighthouse will be celebrating her 100th birthday in a couple years!
PS: the tours are FREE!
Come check it out before Labor Day! Here are more of my photos of the Alki Point Lighthouse.
West Seattle Blog has a nice article with more details about the Alki Point Lighthouse.
The West Seattle Hi-Yu Community Brunch takes place this morning beginning at 9:00 am and ending at noon. Come on out and support the Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu candidates, including Beach Drive resident, Kelsey Porter.
The coronation of 2010's Miss West Seattle HiYu takes place tomorrow night at the West Seattle High School. You can purchase tickets at this morning's brunch for $10 or pay $15 at the door.

The community breakfast is hosted by Don and Sheryl Bogie. According to the West Seattle Herald:

If you haven't started planning your neighborhood's Seattle Night Out event yet–its probably time to start! Seattle Night Out is August 3, 2010. If you want to meet neighbors, which is a great way to prevent crime, your "Night Out" doesn't have to be extravagant. Our area of Beach Drive has done pot lucks in the past and it's been a nice way to stay acquainted.
If you have something planned, send us a shout out. If you haven't heard from any of your neighbors, why not start one? Contact a fellow neighbor and create your own Seattle Night Out! You can register your event by clicking here.
The Seattle Night Out sitehas posters you can print and fliers you can hand out to invite nearby neighbors. You really just need a place to get together and you can really keep the event simple or create what ever you'd like. The whole point is getting together and keeping in touch so we're familiar with who our neighbors are.
By the way, if you're an organizer or Captain of a Block Watch in West Seattle, be sure to join this group on Facebook.
Beach Drive has potential Hi-Yu royality, Miss Kelsey Porter! Kelsey is a 2010 West Seattle Hi-Yu Senior Court Candidate representing the West Seattle Kiwanis Club.
She says:
"Hello, my name is Kelsey Porter and I'm a candidate for Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu 2010/2011 (a women's scholarship program). One of our responsibilities is to sell buttons to help support the Hi-Yu Summer Festival. The buttons are $1 each and feature our theme "Dreams Do Come True".
Maybe you would like one for each member of your family?
Thank you for your support, I greatly appreciate it!
I hope to see you at the American Legion West Seattle Grand Parade on July 24th."
Yesterday, West Seattle Blog reported on an adventure that launched from the shores of Emma Schmitz Viewpoint. You can read the full article here.
"…Alex Kongsgaard launched this morning from the rocky shore below Emma Schmitz Memorial Overlook on Beach Drive – West Seattle to Glacier Bay, planning on about 30 miles a day over the next eight weeks…"
This puppy was found running across Beach Drive. If you're missing a German Sheppard puppy, please contact us.
