Have a safe and fun Halloween!
There have been two water rescues for kite-surfers off of Beach Drive today. One was rescued by Me Kwa Mooks Park. The other call out is south on the 5200 block of Beach Drive and may have just been called off. We hope everyone is okay!
We also spied what appears to be a humpback whale and caught some video at Constellation Park near Alki Point.
The whale is still amazing viewers along Beach Drive… as I write this (3:00 pm on Oct 25, 21), its heading south near Lincoln Park.

This afternoon, the strong winds brought down large branches from our cork screw willow. Thankfully nobody was hurt and no cars were parked here when this happened. Our wonderful neighbors all chipped in to help remove the downed branches.
There is still more wind in the forecast with a small craft advisory in effect through tomorrow night. The current forecast from Wind Alert looks like we’ll be dealing with wind through Wednesday.

Right now it seems pretty calm…we’ll see what Mother Nature has in store. Stay safe, Neighbors!
As I write this post (around 2:30 pm on Thursday), it’s about 70 degrees and muggy outside. The breeze almost feels tropical. There’s been a lot of talk of the spectacular system (bomb cyclone) that’s supposed to stay off the coast this weekend… check out what Wind Alert currently has in the forecast!
You can see on the bar along the bottom that we could be in for windy weather for a few days. Sunday has gusts estimated around 51mph. Monday and Tuesday have gusts topping mid-40s. We could have quite a storm if these predictions hold true.
High Tides:
Stay safe, Neighbors!
This photo and report is compliments of Lezlie Jane. She shared on FB last night, “a stunning eagle was so tangled up in fishing line this morning it couldn’t fly. John, a Falconer, came from Kent to rescue the eagle. It was able to fly away. Careful with those fishing lines.”
Thank you, Lezlie for allowing us to share this great story!
The forecast for Friday looks very wet and windy. As I write this, Thursday morning, we have a small craft advisory issued for most of the day tomorrow. Here’s a current snapshot from WindAlert for Alki Point:
Tides on Friday go form a low of 0.60 feet at 8:42 AM to 11.25 feet at 4:23 PM.
The Puget Sound Marine Forecast, as of 8:46 AM this morning has wind waves up to 4-5 feet.
FRI S wind 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 2 to 4 ft. Rain likely.
FRI NIGHT S wind 20 to 30 kt easing to 15 to 25 kt after midnight. Wind waves 2 to 5 ft.
SAT S wind 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 2 to 4 ft.
Around high tide, if we have gusts in the 30s mostly coming from the south with some southwest and waves of 4-5 feet, we’re likely to see plenty of splashing and possibly water coming over bulkheads.
Some neighbors are already moving their boats to where they will be more protected from the wind and waves.
With this being the first BIG rain of the season combined with the predicted wind, we’re expecting some tree branches to come down too.
Stay safe, Neighbors!
You’ve probably heard the forecast that we are in for a soaker on Friday. It also looks like we’re in for some wind according to the current forecast from WindAlert.
Just a heads up in case you have a boat out in the sound right now OR if you happen to have your lovely summer umbrellas on your patios before the potentially very gusty winds hit. The above forecast is showing potential gusts up to 44 mph on Friday afternoon around 2pm with the wind not really letting up until Sunday. Of course the weather here is constantly changing… but it’s always good to be prepared.
We’ll have to get closer to Friday to know if the forecast stays true and if there’s a potential for waves to cause flooding. ‘Tis the Season!
The City of Seattle has a survey featuring three different options for the section of Beach Drive at Alki point that is currently closed for the Alki Keep Moving” design. The three current plans include the current set up, adding decorative planters; adding additional area designated for pedestrians or re-opening to vehicles as a “one-way” street.
It appears that the City is not considering restoring this stretch of Beach Drive to Alki as it was prior to the pandemic, a two-way street…or at least this option is not on the current survey.
If you would like to chime in to the City, you can click here to take the survey.
Great news! Quentin is back home.
Quentin has been missing from his home on Beach Drive since yesterday afternoon (8/23/21). He is an orange tabby, sleek and muscular. He does not have a collar but he is chipped.
Beach Drive neighbors were surprised this afternoon by an aircraft buzzing off the low tide near their homes.
It’s not unusual to have drones buzz by homes… I can’t recall seeing anything quite like this before.
Could this be a new way to commute with the West Seattle bridge being out of commission? Hmmmm….
No joke, the special pup in this clip is a flat-coated retriever named “Jett”. 🙂 Thanks to his human for sharing this and allowing us to publish the video as well to our other neighbors who also offered up video to share.
