Did you see the lightening?

I tried capturing photos (which is pretty tricky)…the storm appeared to be over Gig Harbor and Vashon Island from our viewpoint.Dsc_0061    Check out West Seattle Blog for some excellent photos submitted by one of their readers.

Bald Eagle along Alki

A new BDB reader sent these amazing photos to share:

Wedding_pictures_081

"I was Googling "West Seattle" and found the Beach Drive Blog. I really enjoyed all the pics in the area and just had to share this one. My son lives on Alki Dr. (He’s a West Seattle native.) I was just there the week of Aug. 13 – 21st for his wedding. We were sitting on the front deck at his house and my husband noticed the Eagle perched on the light post in front of his house. Of course, I grabbed my camera immediately. Then the eagle flew down on to the beach a started having lunch. It was such an awesome site! We live in northern Virgina near DC and do not see this kind of wildlife, especially in the city. I took many pics of him munching out but he would not look up. Then my husband starting making whistling noises which was when I took this pic. Well, the camera is gone, (it was stolen out of my luggage) but thank goodness I uploaded the 250 wedding and vacation pics onto my daughter-in- law’s laptop before I left."

Garage Sales

This was going on today…not sure if the sale is continuing through the weekend.  You could alway cruise by the 5500 block of BImg_5808each Drive and check it out.  Tell them the BDB sent you!

Something fun to do tomorrow…it’s your last chance of the year

Walker1The Walker Rock Garden is amazing and a wonderful way to spend a few moments of your afternoon.    Typically it’s open on Mother’s Day and then re-opens on Father’s Day thru Labor Day…Sunday’s only from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

This Sunday will be your last chance until Mother’s Day.   It’s worth the visit!

The Walker Rock Garden is located at 5407 37th Ave. S.W. , Seattle, Wa 98136.  206-935-3036

The Brown House by Emma Schmitz Park

Brown_house_2It appears that this house will soon be two.    BDB first reported on it back in April as the beginning of a "before and after" home series on tear downs.

If you have a house in your neighborhood on Beach Drive that is tagged as a tear down, snap a photo and email it to me.    I think it’s important to document "what once was".

This poor house has been abandoned (at least we hope no one was living there) for so long.   I think the last big storm blew out the window in the back which now has broken glass and propped up mattresses to keep critters out.

Hat Tip to West Seattle Blog for their Land Use Updates.

Enter "beach dr" to see other properties along Beach Drive that are hoping to change their land use designation.

Welcome Home John

I can’t imagine what it would look like as the USS John C. Stennis is escorted along Bainbridge Island.

Did you hear the fireworks?

This afternoon, three loud blast happened around Emma Schmitz Park.   Guess I’m not the only one who heard it.Dsc_0117_3  What would possess someone to light off fireworks (check out the white pipe at their feet) in the middle of the afternoon at the end of August?

Gone fishing

I had the honor of watching a couple of Osprey fishing today.

Beach Drive Block Watch Update and Neighbor List

NOTE:  I’ve been duking it out with Comcast who has wrongly dumped my emails into their nasty spam category.   I do a lot of email with my "real job".   Because of Comcast, I have not been able to send this message out to neighbors…my apologies.
Hello Neighbor!
If you’re receiving this email, it could mean a couple of things:
  1. You asked to be included on updates regarding the block watch
  2. You attended the Seattle Night Out event on Angeline Street earlier this month
  3. Somehow we have your email address on the neighbor list on www.beachdriveblog.com.
If you do not want to be on the list or to receive Block Watch information, please reply with "remove" in the subject line and I will do so without any further questions.
If you do not want to be on the Beach Drive Neighbor List, please send me an email requesting to be removed (again–no problem).
Please do visit www.beachdriveblog.com and click on the Beach Drive Neighbors link on the left side of the page.   This is private list that requires a login and password.   (Please contact me and if you’re on the list, I’ll provide you with the login/password).
Please take a moment to review your info and make sure it’s correct.   I’ve done my best…but I’m far from perfect!   If you’re not on there and would like to be, please let me know.
I have scheduled a Block Watch meeting with our area representative from the SPD (even though they were a no-show at our gathering for Seattle Night Out).
This is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18 at 6:30 pm. (this is post poned)  I’m not sure WHERE it’s going to be!  Alyson has gernerously offered her nice lot on Angeline again.
Please let me know the following:
1)  Are you interested in participating in a Block Watch?
2)  Are you interested in hosting the meeting at your home?
I would also like to take this moment to thank my neighbors, Natalie and Susan D. for helping to pass out flyers for the Seattle Night Out event and a BIG thank you to Alyson and our neighbors on Angeline who hosted the event on their street and Alyson’s yard.   I think it was a success and I look forward to the event next year.
I look forward to hearing from you.
