The Best Huevos Rancheros in West Seattle

Img_5820

Update September 2008Blackbird Bistro is closed for business.

This is what my husband told me about Blackbird Bistro located on California in West Seattle.    They serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m. and dishing it up until 3:00 p.m.    Being a fan of Huevos…I had to see for myself!

I was actually surprised to see that they are indeed open at 8:30 and on a Saturday.  What a bonus!

They have a nice brunch menu…however we were set Img_5821on the Huevuos Rancheros.

My husband was right.  They are pretty delish.   The tortillas are not fried in grease.   They must be grilled or baked crisp in the oven.   The beans had a mole flavor–everything just tasted very fresh.

The service was nice, too.   Our coffee cups were never empty!

So if you’re looking for a place in West Seattle to have breakfastcheck out Blackbird Bistro.

Did you see the lightening?

I tried capturing photos (which is pretty tricky)…the storm appeared to be over Gig Harbor and Vashon Island from our viewpoint.Dsc_0061    Check out West Seattle Blog for some excellent photos submitted by one of their readers.

Bald Eagle along Alki

A new BDB reader sent these amazing photos to share:

"I was Googling "West Seattle" and found the Beach Drive Blog. I really enjoyed all the pics in the area and just had to share this one. My son lives on Alki Dr. (He’s a West Seattle native.) I was just there the week of Aug. 13 – 21st for his wedding. We were sitting on the front deck at his house and my husband noticed the Eagle perched on the light post in front of his house. Of course, I grabbed my camera immediately. Then the eagle flew down on to the beach a started having lunch. It was such an awesome site! We live in northern Virgina near DC and do not see this kind of wildlife, especially in the city. I took many pics of him munching out but he would not look up. Then my husband starting making whistling noises which was when I took this pic. Well, the camera is gone, (it was stolen out of my luggage) but thank goodness I uploaded the 250 wedding and vacation pics onto my daughter-in- law’s laptop before I left."

The Brown House by Emma Schmitz Park

Brown_house_2It appears that this house will soon be two.    BDB first reported on it back in April as the beginning of a "before and after" home series on tear downs.

If you have a house in your neighborhood on Beach Drive that is tagged as a tear down, snap a photo and email it to me.    I think it’s important to document "what once was".

This poor house has been abandoned (at least we hope no one was living there) for so long.   I think the last big storm blew out the window in the back which now has broken glass and propped up mattresses to keep critters out.

Hat Tip to West Seattle Blog for their Land Use Updates.

Enter "beach dr" to see other properties along Beach Drive that are hoping to change their land use designation.

Welcome Home John

I can’t imagine what it would look like as the USS John C. Stennis is escorted along Bainbridge Island.

Did you hear the fireworks?

This afternoon, three loud blast happened around Emma Schmitz Park.   Guess I’m not the only one who heard it.Dsc_0117_3  What would possess someone to light off fireworks (check out the white pipe at their feet) in the middle of the afternoon at the end of August?
