Found glasses & beach chair at Constellation Park

A Beach Drive Blog reader reports:

"…as I was walking my dog this morning I saw a brightly colored beach chair, folded, with a pair of prescription glasses hanging over its back, leaning on the railing above the beach at Constellation Park. The glasses were misted over; had been there awhile. The chair was across from a building with the number 3306 (just north of the sewage treatment plant). I know you post items about missing pets; don’t know if that’s true for missing eyewear!"

Best Nachos in West Seattle

According to my husband, this honor should go to The Bamboo Bar & Grill for their Steak Nachos.    We shared a plate the other night when we went to Alki to see Lady Liberty return to her home.

Img_5906The nachos are as good as they look.    The steak is tender, guac’s great.  Lots of fresh toppings and plenty of cheese.

We’ve been pretty happy with the food at Bamboo Grill.

My water glass (water was all I was drinking) was never refilled.   Their service was pretty slow…so if you’re coming for the grub, have patience…prepare yourself for a wait (as you may do at many restaurants along Alki).

Bamboo Bar and Grill is located at 2806 Alki Avenue SW, Seattle.  (206) 937-3023.

Sunfish is closed until October 11, 2007

What the heck?  When we were at Alki last night to check out Lady Liberty, I noticed that Sunfish was dark and empty.   On their door, they have this sign:Img_5905

Does anyone know what’s up?   Our last post about Sunfish was about a recent review that stated they have some of the best fish-n-chips in Seattle.

UPDATE:   THEY ARE ON VACATION AND WILL RETURN (AS THE SIGN SAYS) ON OCTOBER 11.   I can’t wait!

SPD at Mee Kwa Mooks Park

Someone tanning themselves nearby stated that it was a pretty large fight between a group of young men.   One van load was hauled away.

Another tear down in the neighborhood

This home is just a block off of Beach Drive at 56th and Jacobsen.  I was surprised to learn last night that it was being torn down.  It was purchased by a builder in March of this year for $727,500.   The permit states this will be a two story, taking full advantage of the view.   Wish I had a "before" picture…I never saw the "yellow sign".

UPDATE 9/16/2007:  According the builder (we met at a friend’s home); they plan on living in the home once it’s complete.

The Brown House on Beach Drive

I noticed this sign on the way to the school bus stop this morning:Img063

As reported on BDB earlier this month, this "eyesore" is eventually going to be two townhouses.   You can read the City’s decision by clicking here.

You would think the City would have laws about abandoned homes (I hope no one is living there) on main arterials since it can be a safety and health issue (as the sign mentions).

This Sunset is Dedicated to the 3 Day-ers

This photo is from last night.   I’d like to dedicate it to all of the 3-Day Marathon participants, to those who were not able to participate, those who are battling cancer, the survivorsDsc_0038 and those we’ve lost.

The Three P’s: Planning, Preparing and … Panic!

Winter still seems far away…but it’s not so far away that you can’t start planning for one of the big storms we’ve had.   In the few years we’ve lived on Beach Drive, we’ve been pummeled 3 times with waves, salt and wind.

Feb42006a

We’ve had some very nice neighbors who have offered to help “bail us out” and we’ve had other neighbors who were not well prepared and wanted to borrow our pumps (ummm….we were kind of using them).

Here is a quick list, if you live on the “water side” of things you may want to consider picking up before we’re in “storm season” and they’re sold out.   (We have Honda’s for our generator and pumps).

  • Generators
  • Pumps (we have two and it so far that’s paid off because it seems like every time one has decided to quit on us). UPDATE: Aurora Rents is open on Sundays and have pumps available to rent should you flood like we do!
  • Gas for generators and pumps
  • Big Thermos full of coffee (maybe Spanish Coffee)
  • Tide Charts to read along with the upcoming Puget Sound marine forecast (links on the right column of BDB under “Swell Links”).
  • Tall rubber boots
  • Neoprene gloves

You can always try renting pumps and generators.   It use to be more convenient when the rental place was located on Fauntleroy instead of SODO and the storm needs to hit when the rental place is open for biz. (See note above regarding Aurora Rents).

We have a neighbor friend who keeps a “crash kit” of warm clothing ready for when it’s time to go battle the wind and waves.

This is just a few ideas in the event of a storm with high tides.    What to do if we’re out of power for 5 plus days in the winter is enough for another post at a later date.

UPDATE: Since writing this post, you can connect with Beach Drive Blog with Twitter @BeachDriveBlog or Facebook fb.com/beachdriveblog using your cell phones should we lose power.
