All photos were taken today during low tide.
Three Eagles and a Heron
Chihuahua heading towards SW Dawson
I just returned home from grocery shopping and received this email from Delores:
"I was walking my dog on 50th and Jacobson/Hudson, and heading south on 50th when I saw a sandy colored Chihuahua heading to Jacobson/Hudson. It is an older, male Chihuahua, sandy colored, with white fur on head. It never let me get close to him to check his tags. He has a blue collar and I tried to get him but he kept running away. Last seen heading east on SW Dawson Street. I tried to get a look at his tags to call the owner, and other folks tried to get him, including a really nice Comcast employee, but to no avail.
I am worried for this little guy. He appears to be an older dog, and was clearly distressed.
I didn’t have a camera so I couldn’t take a picture.
Can you please post this anyway?"
Thanks to the neighbor for sending me the email. Hopefully we can connect the owner and pet. I did forward this to West Seattle Blog as well (they have a page set up just for missing/found pets).
Low Tide Today…Lower Tomorrow
Our Brazen Squirrel
This fella is not shy about begging for peanuts. This squirrel isn’t "One-Eyed Willy". He is very friendly and has no fear. In fact, he just jumped into my window seal and then back out when I let out a surprised shriek.
He waits in the planter and stares at us until we open the window and toss him his prey. He could care less about our two cats. Just after this photo was taken this morning, he chased Bagara off the porch!
His biggest trick is probably hanging out upside down on our front door gate so when you open it, all you see is a bushy tail right in front of your face!
Beach Drive Tear-Down to Townhome Update
4145 Beach Drive SW (pictured below) built in 1908, is applying to have it’s land use change to 1 single family and a two-unit townhome. Here’s the Notice of Application. WSB has covered this home as well and we did back in April 2007 when the first dreaded "yellow little sign" was noted in the front yard.
While we’re at it…. here’s the "progress" on two other properties that were recently torn down.
The former "Grandma House" that’s located at 3726 Beach Drive SW now looks like this:
Instead of this:
And this tricky little town home located at 3636 Beach Drive now features a drive-thru so you can access units stashed in the back (you can’t see it from this angle). BDB first covered this property in October 2007, however it came down so quick, we missed the before picture.
If my memory serves me, the "before" home was a small cottage that sat back on the lot. Perhaps too small making the land worth more than the home…and creating another "tear-down to townhome". Here’s my only "before" photo:
I have no updates for the Brown House located at 4233 Beach Drive.
Osprey on Opening Day
Crow diving at the Osprey.
I wish I could show you a picture of the Osprey with a catch…you’ll have to go to an eariler post to see that.
Opening Day
Spring Cleaning & Bake Sale Tuesday, May 29th at The Alki Homestead
This info is via the Alki Beach Community Yahoo Group:
I just read this on the West Seattle Blog.
http://westseattleblog.com/blog/ forum/topic. php?id=727& replies=12 The Alki Homestead is having a spring cleaning and bake sale. There
will be antiques, silver, crystal, stemware and kitchenwares not to
mention homemade cakes, cookies, and pies. The sale is this tuesday
the 29th from 3pm to 7pm we will accept cash, check, or credit card. For those who have fond memories of that place, it is a good time to
bring some of those memories home. I made a call to the GM, Chris
Long. He had indicated that some people liked the idea and others
would like to see everything stay the same.Chris had indicated that most of the stuff for sale had been stored
upstairs forever and they will most likely not be used again. For
what ever its worth, go take and look and decide if you want a piece
of Alki Homestead.
