Two Lost Dogs

Update:  4/8/2007 The dogs are HOME!!!! We picked them up at the shelter this morning. Thanks to everyone for your phone calls and help! And thank you to the people to who took them in and called the shelter!!!

Please keep your eyes out for two missing dogs.   One is a Beagle and the other is a Spaniel-Mix.   They snuck out together out of their front yard and do not have collars on.  If you see them, please call 206-784-2595.

Photos to follow.    There are signs and photos on the telephone polls in the neighborhood.

UPDATE 4/7/07:  Dog1Someone saw the dogs yesterday down by 51st and Edmonds.   The Spaniel-Beagle mix is Dudley.  He’s 9.

The Beagle is a 3 year old  named Ellie.    The both love food.

More Pet Foods Being Recalled

Purina has added some of their foods to the recall.    They stress that dry foods are not affected, however, my dog has been sick tonight and if he’s not doing better tomorrow morning, we will be at the vet.     He (and our cats) have Purina dry food.  More brands have been added as well, however, I’m having a tough time tracking them down.

Bottom line.  Any sign of a sick pet, they need to get into their vets.   This is very discouraging.    Many humans are making food for their pets…I may start, too.

West Seattle Pet Rodeo

Do you have an extra talented pet?  Or do you or your pet share some resemblance?

Maybe you should enter the West Seattle Pet Rodeo and Snooty Walk.   This event will take place on April 21, 2007 from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Hiawatha Park

No mean dogs or angry cats are allowed!

For more information, contact stcodling@seattleschools.org

Our family will not have any entries in this competition…our most talented pet once won a MySpace contest for being white…that’s where our talent ends!

Pet Food Recall

DogsJust in case you’ve missed this in the news…Menu Foods has a massive recall on dog and cat food.    Animals are dying from kidney failure due to a suspect wheat gluten.   Many of the foods are "high end" moist foods and I know this doesn’t relate directly to our neighborhood…but we all love our cats and dogs.

Here is an article from the Seattle Times and a link to Menu Foods for recall information.   There are 42 different brands of cat food and 51 types of dog food that are being recalled.   If your pet is showing any signs of sickness, please get them to your vet as soon as possible.

Off Leash Dog Areas in West Seattle

Orson_2A BDB Reader emailed me this afternoon wanting to know if anyone knows of attempts for petitions for off leash dog areas in Lincoln Park.

She would like to know if anyone is " has knowledge of past attempts or is interested in championing the cause"?

If anyone has any information on this, please comment on this post or email me.

Update:  We are getting some interest in a leash free zone for Lincoln Park   If you leave a comment with your email address (you’re prompted to), then others who are interested in this cause, can contact you.   If you do not want your email address on this blog, then simply send me the email and I can post your comments under my email address instead.

Thank you..the blog already found him..some one was walking on Jacobsen found him out of the yard and took him to the animal shelter. they saw the notice on the blog and called us and we will go get him in the morning.  Thanks again!

If you find a missing pet, please feel free to send us an email, in addition to what ever else you’re doing to find the pet’s home.   BDB is more than happy to post the lost pet looking for their humans or vice versa.

Missing Black Lab

Pogo is a 12 year old black lab with a little bit of white on both front paws.  He’s on medication for seizures and needs to be back with his family who lives on Jacobsen.   Please contact them by email.

Wookie is Home!

A week and a half ago, BDB reported on a lost cat, Wookie.   I’m pleased to announce that Wookie has been reunited with his family.

Wookie disappeared Sunday Feb 11 after we had inadvertently left him out alone while we all went out for the day. He had a name tag with our phone number. After posting all the houses in the neighborhood the mail lady and all telephone poles we put an ad in the Times then on BDB. The animal shelters had no report on him dead or alive. Tuesday Feb 20 we left on vacation with heavy hearts. Monday morning Feb 26 we got a call from our next door neighbor about a skittish cat they could not get a good look at who had been living under their hot tub for a few days…. We returned as scheduled that night to find a very dirty smelly and skinny Wookie name tag still in tact.
We have been enjoying a very happy reunion as our dog and and children had become quite attached since we got Wookie Aug 9th as a birthday present.  Thanks for your help!

Welcome home, Wookie!

Help for Lost and Found Pets

Note:  Please email me as soon as possible and I’ll do a post on your lost or found Beach Drive Pet.   Including a photo is also helpful.   Beach Drive Blog has a pretty good success ratio on reuniting pets to homes.

Img_3942Last year, some neighbors and I found a lost dog.   He (or she) was obviously someone’s missing pet.  I made posters and had them on many telephone poles up and down Beach Drive.   Luckily, for our cats and one-eyed pug, a friend of the owner found us walking the dog the night before tucking it in that evening.

Here are a few helpful websites I found during this event where you can post lost or found pets:

Seattle Times

Craigs List

The Stranger

Seattle Animal Shelter

West Seattle Herald

Dog Detective

Please let me know if I’m missing any resources for our lost and found pets.  We all want our pets home…safe and sound.

Lost Cat

"Wookie" was last seen on Monday.   She does have a tag and is about one year old with long hair black and grey tabby markings.   She is really missed by her family.

If I receive a photo from the family or when Wookie is found, I will update this post.
