If you join me for a sail today, please be sure to wear your grey.
Grey Day
West Seattle Pet Rodeo
Do you have an extra talented pet? Or do you or your pet share some resemblance?
Maybe you should enter the West Seattle Pet Rodeo and Snooty Walk. This event will take place on April 21, 2007 from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Hiawatha Park.
No mean dogs or angry cats are allowed!
For more information, contact stcodling@seattleschools.org
Our family will not have any entries in this competition…our most talented pet once won a MySpace contest for being white…that’s where our talent ends!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day
Okay…he’s not a Leprechaun (he is wearing green pants)…and I did spy him on Beach Drive in a neighbor’s yard. And I’m sure he’s good luck for us on this St. Patrick’s Day.
St. Patty’s Day officially begins in West Seattle at Celtic Swell on March 16th at 10:00 p.m. A pint of Guinness anyone?
Don’t miss the Irish Heritage Club Annual St. Patrick’s Day parade beginning at 12:30 on Saturday along 4th Avenue in Seattle.
May your neighbors respect you, trouble neglect you, the angels protect you, and heaven accept you.
Art Show at Endolyne Joe’s
Explorer West Middle School is featuring an exhibit of ceramic masks based on Mexican mask design at Endolyne Joe’s. I understand some of the art is even available for purchase! The show runs from March 15 – June 12, 2007.
Do you have information about a school event? I’m happy to post it on BDB…and even happier if you would like to post it (wink wink). Just send me an email.
Beach Drive Earth Art
If this is the same artist from Valentines Day, then I can tell you a little more about this creative genius. Apparently this neighbor is a 28 year old gentleman who "is inspired by a love for the natural world… he just wants people to get out, appreciate the outdoors, and talk to one another."
This art can be enjoyed along Mee Kwa Mooks Park, near where his previous art was displayed. Happy Friday!
And the Storm Is….
…the National Weather Service has named the storm from December 2006: (drum roll please) . . . . "The Hanukkah Eve Windstorm of 2006".
Apparently, the National Weather Service put all 8000 entries into a hat and drew Burien resident Clyde Hill’s entry as the winner. 39 other contestants suggested the same storm name.
March 3, 2007 update. Seattle Time’s article is pretty funny about the storm. Someone suggested naming it after his ex-wife!
Happy One Month Birthday!
Amazing but true. Beach Drive Blog is one month old today! That’s a life time in the blogosphere.
Our first post was on January 25, 2007…Welcome to Beach Drive Blog.
I’m not planning on announcing every month-versary. It’s just the first month is kind of special.
I would like to put a "shout out" for any Beach Drive neighbor who would like to be a fellow author on this blog. I have sent invites to a few who have indicated they would like to write for BDB…and they do have some very interesting ideas. I’m just waiting to see them (hint hint). Contact me if you’re game!
Thanks again for subscribing to Beach Drive Blog, for visiting the site and for sharing BDB with your neighbors. This has been a lot of fun. Happy Day.
PS: To celebrate…I added a new banner on the top of this web page…whaddaya think?
Where to Eat in West Seattle
Can’t decide where you want to have lunch or dinner? Click this link, enter your zip code and if you’re hankering for breakfast, lunch or dinner…then give the "Wheel of Food" a spin. It’s a crack up…okay….so I’m easily amused!
Fun at the Fauntleroy Ferry on Friday
Fine! Today the Seattle Times reports:
"Retired Olympia artist Alex Young, a former state Department of Transportation (DOT) architect, has created a new ferry poster — one that depicts the state ferry Klahowya at Washington State Ferries’ Southworth terminal.
The artist will be on board the ferry Tillikum on the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth route on Friday for an artist reception and poster signing. He’ll sign posters, at a discounted $15 cost, on the 3:05, 4:20 and 6 p.m. sailings from the Fauntleroy terminal in West Seattle. Posters from some previous years also will be available."
Not Beach Drive…but in the ‘hood. Just thought I’d let you know. To read the entire article, click here.
Old Photos of Your Seattle Home
Did you know that if your home was built prior to 1930, there may be a photo of it in the State Achieves that you can obtain?
It takes a couple weeks to receive the photo and for a few cents extra, you can order the records that they have available from that time (in our case, it wasn’t much to write home about). The photo is from 1937, our home was built in 1928.
To order a photo of your home from the Puget Sound Achieves, click here to send an email. You will need to provide:
- Property address
- Tax Parcel Number (I can help you find this if you don’t have this handy)
- Legal Description (lot/block…they just want a brief one)
- Your name and contact info
You can order anything from a 5×7 for $17.00 to a 16×20 for $55.00. They will let you know what is available.
