Auction Benefiting the Log House Museum

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Log House Museum – Preserving Heritage Gala and Silent Auction

Saturday, November 22, 2008 from 5pm-9pm

WEST SEATTLE – The Southwest Historical Society invites you to a festive evening to raise funds for the Log House Museum.  The Log House Museum preserves Seattle’s history and as a non-profit, relies on donations from members, the business community and museum enthusiasts to keep the doors open.

We begin with a live jazz trio during the cocktail hour and on the spot jewelry appraisal services from a PBS Antiques Road Show appraiser.  Browse the silent auction featuring items that coincide with this years theme of preserving heritage.  Next we feast on a gourmet dinner with the choice of Confetti Ravioli or Steak and Northwest Salmon.  For dessert, we have a delectable variety of homemade treats on auction from family recipes for you to enjoy.

Tickets are $75 per person and are available by calling the Log House Museum at 206-938-5293or via email.

This event takes place at The Jerry Brockey Center at South Seattle Community College, 6000-16th Avenue SW, Seattle

3 Day Breast Cancer walk NOT on Beach Drive

Not this year…sorry neighbors.  The route for the 3 day walk has just been announced and we are not on the map.  The organizers are trying to give all neighborhoods a chance to enjoy this event.  This year the route will be starting at Bellevue Community College, going along Greenlake and then back to the eastside.

Maybe next year?

REI Work Crew at Emma Schmidts

My husband, aka The Junior Reporter for Beach Drive Blog, noticed this work crew from REI volunteering at Emma Schmidts Memorial View Point earlier today.   They certainly picked a nice day for it!

Seattle Breast Cancer 3 Day

You may have noticed a new button on the upper right corner of Beach Drive Blog… I’m supporting the memories of two of my friends and co-workers who have passed away from breast cancer.   Michelle Brown was my dear friend and processor for almost six years…she passed last December and Tammy Swanberg was a fellow loan originator who passed a few years ago.   Both of their surviving husbands are walking in their honor and I’m doing what I can to support them.

In addition to the link to donate on the blog…I’ll be sending out reminders prior to the big event.   You may recall that last year, the last leg of the 3 Day event was also along Beach Drive to Alki.   Many neighbors created "cheer stations" along the way by decorating their homes, providing water or snacks (like trick-or-treat bags of m&ms) or clapped and cheered on the many who marched on by.   And the participants are quite a site to see.

It’s great fun and a wonderful "feel good" moment to get involved.

Car Wash Fundraiser for Rainiers Baseball

bBring your filthy dirty grungy cars to Complete Automotive Repair on Saturday, March 15th from 11:00 – 4:00 pm to have it washed by our local West Seattle 14 year olds playing for Rainers Baseball.

Complete Automotive Repair is located at 7617 35th Avenue SW in West Seattle.  Donations from the car wash will help fund their tournaments this year.

The “Mean Stairs” – Preparing for The Big Climb

Img_6271_2

My husband has been in training for "The Big Climb" which takes place in just over 10 days (he’s the handsome devil who’s jogging along Beach Drive).

He will be with a group of his co-workers (and many others) climbing flights of stairs at the Columbia Tower.  His group is raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of their co-worker, Dawn, who was diagnosed with leukemia last year.   Their "troop" is called Dawn’s Army and my husband is fundraising under the alias of "Gomer".

To prepare for climbing 69 flights of stairs, he’s been tackling some of the stairs in the neighborhood.   Suky calls this set "the mean stairs".

My husband is too shy to ask for sponsors or donations…but I’m not!  If you would like to make a tax deductible donation (benefiting the Leukemia Lymphoma Society), please click here.   All donations count…no matter how big or small.

I will be keeping a link up on Beach Drive Blog for "The Big Climb" (upper right corner) until the event is over on March 16, 2008.

Clean Up at Weather Watch Park

A group of volunteers are just finishing up cleaning and much needed weeding at Weather Watch Park along Beach Drive.   One volunteer is no other than Lezlie Jane, the artist who contributed a great deal to many of our West Seattle Parks, including Weather Watch Park

Lezlie and I have exchanged contact info so that she can contact us the next time they plan a work party so more can join in on the fun.

Get Your Bras Ready

A little bird has told me that the Seattle Breast Cancer 3-Day will use the same route this year as they did last year.   This means the 3-Day’ers will be making the last day of their journey along Beach Drive and we have the opportunity to cheer them on!

I had a lot of fun last year just clapping and offering encouragement.   Other neighbors decorated and had bags of M&Ms and other goodies to support the marathoners in this great cause.

I lost a dear friend, Michelle Brown, to breast cancer last year; 2008 — I’m going to decorate my "cheer station" in her honor…she’ll love it from above.

This event takes place September 14, 2008.   More info to follow.
