Don’t forget to cheer on the marathoners tomorrow

Just a reminder that the Northwest Hope & Healing Half Marathon & 5k Run/Walk is taking place tomorrow.   Part of the route includes Beach Drive.    I did a half-marathon a few years ago and the cheering fans was a great much needed support.

This Sunset is Dedicated to the 3 Day-ers

This photo is from last night.   I’d like to dedicate it to all of the 3-Day Marathon participants, to those who were not able to participate, those who are battling cancer, the survivorsDsc_0038 and those we’ve lost.

Pretty in Pink…The 3 Day Marathoners

What an incredible experience to watch and cheer for all of the wonderful courageous people who are participating in the Breast Cancer 3-Day Marathon.    Img_5875

It was great to see fellow neighbors will "all out" cheer stations equipped with water and mini-bags of M&M’s.    I just pulled up a chair and encouraged them with "great job" and "almost done" as they walked by.   I wish I would have done more…but I know the marathoners truly appreciated the support.

I trimmed back our cork screw willow which drapes over the sidewalk after it borrowed someone’s pink fuzzy antennas.     We have another marathon, The Northwest Hope and Healing, for breast cancer along Beach Drive next Sunday, September 16.   Let’s support the marathoners again!  If you have shrubs that are poking over into the sidewalk, you might want to consider doing some pruning to make it easier for these champions.

The 3 Day Marathon is here

I just had thought…we should probably wait to roll out our garbarge until after the marathon has passed our section of Beach Drive.

Let’s give these guys and gals some extra space (and cheer ’em on).

I’ve done a half marathon before and it was grueling for me.   I have complete respect for what the 3-Day-ers are accomplishing not only for their charity and cause but also for the pure physical aspect.

I’m off to the side walk to cheer!  It’s kind of early…but I think I can manage.

Wake up early to cheer for the 3-Day Marathoners

Just a reminder that beginning tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m., The Breast Cancer 3-Day marathoners will be coming by until approx. 11:00.

Let’s line Beach Drive to cheer them on during their last day of this huge event.

Create your own "Cheering Station" and think pink!  Mvc010f_2

I’m planning on getting up early to provide some encouragement.   One person I’ll be looking for in the "sea of pink" is my friend and co-worker, Larry Swanberg.    Larry is one heck of a nice guy.    He lost his wife, Tammy, to breast cancer a couple of years ago and he continues to participate in this marathon to honor her memory.

If you see Larry (he should be easy to spot…he’s a guy!) please give him a "shout out".

The Breast Cancer 3-Day Marathon along Beach Drive

On Sunday, September 9 from 7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. we will witness a sea of pink as marathoners parade down Beach Drive to support breast cancer.  The Breast Cancer 3-Day is probably one of the largest events for breast cancer (at least that I’m aware of).    The marathons walk on average 20 miles a day to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer.

Our neighborhood is Day 3 of this event and this is a wonderful opportunity to pull up a lawn chair and cheer these ladies and gentlemen on.

"Cheering Stations are a great way to show your support along the route to encourage participants and let them know that you are with them every step of the way. Seeing familiar faces cheering them on can provide that extra burst of energy that gets them to take that next step or go the next mile. Create banners, hold up signs, bring some music and make some noise – anything to make them smile, get energized and keep walking. Note: The “Last Chance Cheering Station” (on Day 3) is your last chance to see your walkers before you are reunited with them at Closing Ceremonies."

The Last Chance Cheering Station is at Alki Beach.

So many lives are touched by this disease, let’s get out and show our support!

Stuff the Bus–Diaper Drive

Stuff the Bus is taking place at the West Seattle Farmers Market this Sunday, July 29th from 10-2.   Please bring disposable diapers to donate.    This event benefits WestSide Baby, a non-profit organization who has helped over 15,000 South King County families in need during 2005-2006.Img_5418

Marathon of hope and healing along Beach Drive

Nwhope

Northwest Hope and Healing Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk will take place on Sunday, September 16, 2007.   This charity provides financial assistance for non-medical support services (child care, transportation, emergency rent & utilities, etc.) to help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients in the Puget Sound area.

The route for this event starts at Lincoln Park, goes along Beach Drive winding through Alki, down California and back to the where it all begana t Lincoln Park.

You have two months from today to train for this event…heck, the 5k is only 3 miles! Or it could be fun to come out to Beach Drive and cheer the participants on.   I did a half marathon a couple of years ago and the crowd support was really appreciated!

Get your morning cup of Joe at Tully’s

Just a neighborly reminder that all day today, Tully’s is donating 20% of all store revenue to support the JP Patches statue fund and Children’s Hospital.   Drink up!
