This Sunday marks the 10th year since 9/11. The Southwest Seattle Historical Society invites you to the Log House Museum to view a memorial on Sunday from 12:00 – 7:00 pm. At 7:00 on Sunday, there will be a candelight vigil at the Alki Statue of Liberty to memorialize the fallen as well as survivors and families of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York.

This morning at 8:15 a.m. marathoners began a half marathon starting at Salty's at Alki with course going on Beach Drive into Lincoln Park.
The sidewalks will be a little busier this morning than normal. We may need to be extra careful when backing out of hidden driveways.
The marathon ends at 11:15 a.m.
The West Seattle Hi-Yu Community Brunch takes place this morning beginning at 9:00 am and ending at noon. Come on out and support the Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu candidates, including Beach Drive resident, Kelsey Porter.
The coronation of 2010's Miss West Seattle HiYu takes place tomorrow night at the West Seattle High School. You can purchase tickets at this morning's brunch for $10 or pay $15 at the door.
The brunch takes place at the Alki UCC Church located at 6112 SW Hinds. The suggested donation is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12 supporing the Hi-Yu scholarshp program. The menu features bacon, sausage, eggs, fresh fruit salad and pastries.
The community breakfast is hosted by Don and Sheryl Bogie. According to the West Seattle Herald:
Don Bogie promises a great, fresh breakfast, "I cut the fruit salad that morning" and notes that "It really is community because you see the same people every year."
Side note: Don Bogie is the 2008 Seattle Weekly's Best Bartender.

The Alki Community Council will meet Thursday, January 21 at 7 p.m. at the Alki UCC Church at 6115 Hinds St. This is a new location.
Special guest will be Lyn McClelland, who will speak about the Alki Light Station.

The Southwest Seattle Historical Society (SWSHS) invites residents to bike into history as the 2nd Annual SWSHS Bike Tour returns to West Seattle Sunday, June 7, 2009, 12:30 to 2 p.m. The Bike Tour accompanies SWSHS’ popular Walking Tour series, showcasing some of West Seattle’s most influential landmarks. Beginning at the Log House Museum on Alki Beach, the Bike Tour is a casual 5-mile bike ride around the Duwamish Peninsula via Alki and Harbor Avenues and West Marginal Way. Featured sites on the route include the Log House Museum, the newly reconstructed Alki Statue of Liberty Plaza, Alki Beach, Anchor Park (formerly Luna Park) and the new Duwamish Longhouse on West Marginal Way. Admission to the Bike Tour is $7for non-members, $5 for museum members. Donations are accepted. The Log House Museum is located at 3003 61st Avenue SW, a half-block off Alki Avenue. CALL FOR ARTISTS AND CRAFTSPEOPLE FOR THE 12TH ANNUAL ALKI ART FAIR
The 12th Annual Alki Art Fair takes place this year on July 25 and 26, and Alki Community Center is looking for artists and craftspeople interested in exhibiting their handmade pieces at this popular annual art fair.
Artists new to the fair need to come to one of three registration days at Alki Community Center, 5817 SW Stevens St., to view samples of potential entrants' art and to assign booth spaces. The Fair includes only handmade art and booth fees of $65 for one day or $110 for both days are due on the registration days.
This is a juried show of artwork by some 100 area artists' jewerly, paintings, photos, glass and metal art work, pottery, candles, and more; and the weekend features live music, a food court and plenty of family activities.
Returning artists can send in the form on the art fair's web site and booth assignments will be made on a first-come first-serve basis. There are youth booths available for artists 16 and younger for $25 for one day and $40 for both days.
Registration days are Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Saturday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Monday, June 8 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
