Shhhh…It’s a Surprise
At 7pm tonight, a gentleman will be ariving with his signficant other at this site at Mee Kwa Mooks.
I had to grin when the Chef told me the name of his company: Rain City Catering…it shares the same name as on of the blogs I’m an author at. Unfortunately, I’m not able to find info on this catering…if anyone has info, please comment and let me know.

Willie, Beach Drive Blog’s Pet of the Week
There’s a special story about Willie that involves our Seattle Night Out from earlier this week. You see, as our gathering were enjoying each others company, good food and nice weather, an alarm was sounding in the distance. It was hard to tell if it was a car or house alarm…until someone realized that it was their home on Jacobsen. Smoke was coming out of the back patio door. The neighbors bolted and another neighbor at our SNO event called 9-1-1. Within moments, the neighbor emerged from his home on the patio and gave us a big thumbs up, thankfully.
Willie, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, apparently was real curious about what was in the foil sitting on the stove top. He jumped up to sniff it out (the foil was previously covering chocolate cupcakes–who could blame him?) and accidently bumped the stove on causing a small fire. Thankfully, no one was harmed, no damage done and all is fine.
And who could ever be upset at a face like this.

Dark Chocolate Amaretto Cake
This tasty tidbit was Chris King’s popular potluck dish at yesterday’s Seattle Night Out. Here is the much requested recipe:
-
1 (18.25 oz) package of devil’s food cake mix with pudding
-
1 (5.9 oz) package chocolate fudge instant pudding mix
-
1 1/4 cups water
-
1/2 cup vegtable oil
-
1 tablespoon almond extract
-
4 large eggs
-
3 cups semisweet chocolate morsels, divided
-
1/2 cup amaretto-flavored liquid non-dairy creamer
-
3 tablespoons sliced natural almonds, toasted
Combine first 6 ingredients in a large mixing bowl; beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in 2 cups chocolate morsels. Pour batter into a greased and floured 12-cup Bundt pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 55-65 minutes until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes; remove from pan, and cool completely on wire rack.
Combine remaining 1 cup chocolate morsels and amaretto-flavored creamer in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stiring constantly, until morsels melt. Remove from heat; let stand 15 minutes. Drizzle chocolate glaze over cake; sprinkle with almonds.
According to Chris, this is a very easy recipe to make…I can tell you that it received rave reviews from all the neighbors!
Seattle Night Out — A Nice Time to See Neighbors
Beach Drive had a nice pot luck at our Night Out event and were visited by several of Seattle’s finest police officers.
Apparently the latest crime trends in our area are:
- portable navagation systems and laptops being stolen from cars.
- stolen landscaping (such as fountains)
- new construction sites are being targeted.
- break ins through back doors left open during the hot weather while someone is gardening in the front yard.
I know we really enjoyed seeing neighbors we thank Alyson for sharing her yard and making this event possible. Watch for recipes on future posts from the delish potluck dishes.
Were there other Seattle Night Out events in Beach Drive? Please let me know.
