Burglary on Beach Drive

The suspect was caught…it happened this afternoon in a "secure" condo.   To get the full scoop, read about it on West Seattle Blog.

At the Seattle Night Out event last month, the SPD mentioned that many burglaries happen during warmer weather because of people leaving doors and windows unlocked.  In fact, they warned of increased incidents where people were gardening in their front yards while someone would sneak in through the back and snatch a purse (or something else quick).  I have no idea if this is what happened this afternoon.   At the very least, it’s a reminder for all of us.

Sunny-Side-Up Jellyfish

I spied this Jellyfish (which looks like a sunny side up egg, to me) while the USS Kitty Hawk was cruising to Bremerton the other morning.Dsc_0226

Repairing Old Cast Iron Pipes

Dsc_0130

Earlier this year we had issues with some of our older plumbing in our home built in 1928.  I called various plumbers we had worked with in the past and since it was cast iron steam pipes–no one wanted to touch it with a ten foot pipe pole.

The only company that we could find who was happy to remedy our situation was Northwest Mechanical.    They did a great job, it was done on time and for what was quoted.   I hope your old steam pipes never fail you, but if they do, you may want to remember this local company.

Cruising through Puget Sound: USS Kitty Hawk

If I’m not mistaken, this is the historic USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) which was seen moments ago in Puget Sound waters.

Another Beach Drive Teardown

The Barn Swallows, I’ve been writing about, have been living in a home that looks like is a flip on Beach Drive.   Today, some of the people who have been doing a few of the improvements on this property re-appeared to weed and tidy up the listing and in the process, removed their nest.

I know it’s not quite a tear down on a human scale.  I’m just listening to the birds chirp like crazy right now wondering what on earth happened to their humble home.   Hopefully it was time for the Barn Swallows to move on anyhow.

Update:  here is a great link contributed by a Beach Drive neighbor: http://www.zoo.org/factsheets/barn_swallow.html

3 Day Breast Cancer walk NOT on Beach Drive

Not this year…sorry neighbors.  The route for the 3 day walk has just been announced and we are not on the map.  The organizers are trying to give all neighborhoods a chance to enjoy this event.  This year the route will be starting at Bellevue Community College, going along Greenlake and then back to the eastside.

Maybe next year?
