Volunteer Opportunity at The Southwest Seattle Historical Society
Are you new to Seattle and curious about its past? Are you a native who would like to brush up on local history? Are you interested in serving an organization that needs your financial, fundraising, community organizing and management skills?
The Southwest Seattle Historical Society, which operates The Log House Museum on Alki, is looking for volunteers, committee members, and board members. Participation in our board will be challenging and rewarding, stretching your skills and abilities. You will also gain experience in the meaningful work of preserving the history of Southwest Seattle, making new friends in the community and the pride of knowing you’ve contributed to a vital organization.
Board member terms are for three years, beginning in 2009. Volunteer and committee work begins at any time. If you are up for the fun and challenge, please send a letter of interest to www.loghousemuseum.org.

International Geologist touring Beach Drive
You may have noticed a tour bus with a large group wandering along the waterfront of Mee Kwa Mooks down to Beach Drive and Jacobsen. Apparently it is a group of American and Japanese geologist studying earthquakes and tsunami’s and they stopped here for a tour before beginning their conference. The geologist that I briefly taked to stated that they are interested in this area because of the similarities to California and Japan.

Check Out Ruby: Beach Drive Blog’s Pet of the Week
Orson and I bump into Ruby during our walks. I can confirm that she is one big sweetheart. But don’t take my word for it, here’s her photo and what her humans have to say about her.
This is Ruby our Bulldog. She’s almost 6 years old but still acts like a puppy. She loves hide and go seek, swimming, obstacle courses (paints a picture doesn’t it) and chasing her rubber chicken . She is working to be a therapy dog and is a huge people lover. You’ll see her walking with Gail or Jodie along the park many times a day. Feel free to stop and pet her – she’s very friendly!!
Take Winter By Storm
This windy rainy day should be enough to remind us of how serious our winter weather can be. The Seattle of City along with King County and Puget Sound Energy have teamed up to create a website to help bring awareness to what the public can do (and not do) in nasty weather.
We do our best with "barking dog reports" to let you know when we’re preparing to hunker down at our home. Now’s as good as time as any to make sure you have what you need in the event of a big storm where we possibly lose power or flood. Perhaps you’d like to adopt a drain to help out the streets in our neighborhood?
