Mud Slide at 6200 Beach Drive

Beach Drive is closed to all traffic around the 6200 block.  This is the same area that has experienced mud slides before (below Atlas).  Here's our post from the mudslide in this area back in December 2007.

As we were taking these photos, you could hear snapping and popping of trees.

Update 6:20 pm:  Beach Drive is now closed at Jacobson heading south towards the slide.

Friday’s Beautiful Sunset is Dedicated to my Dad

I'm sorry I haven't been posting much lately.   My Dad passed away on Friday afternoon.  My sisters and I were on our deck watching the sunset when a dozen red roses tied in a gold bow appeared.

The moment after the sun set, the phone rang and it was a nurse telling us that our Dad had peacefully passed away.   Dad was 64 and had been battling various health issues including progressive lymphoma (skin cancer).

Rest in Peace, Dad.

I love this time of year and posting photos of homes that are decorated to celebrate the season, friends and family.   Please email me photos of Beach Drive neighborhood homes decked out for the holidays and I will get them posted.

Car Vandalism on Beach Drive Last Night

Just south of Jacobson, last night someone ripped off the wheels from a Honda Fit.

It's amazing that crime can take place steps away from our homes while we sleep with no one seeing or hearing a thing.

It's important to report all crimes, including non-emergency, to the Seattle Police Department at (206) 625-5011.

If a crime happens in our neighborhood it's also important to share it with your Block Watch Captain and please consider forwarding it to Beach Drive Blog so we can all be aware and alert of crime trends in our neighborhood.

Winter Weather Advisory from 6 Tonight through Thanksgiving Afternoon

I am looking foward to a balmy 4o degrees forecasted on Thanksgiving.  Here is a recent advisory:

From our home to yours, we hope you have a very happy, warm and safe Thanksgiving.

Bundle Up Beach Drive!

The National Weather Service has a "Special Weather Statement" warning of "sub-freezing temperatures to last through Thanksgiving morning".  Brrrrrr.

Just in case my fingers are too frozen by Thursday with our chance of snow, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Hopefully everyone is staying warm during this spell of extra cold weather.

Snow, Wind and Waves!

3:43 Update:  The wind is here along with more snow.  You can't really tell by this photo just how hard the wind is blowing…but it is.   Bundle up!

2010-11-22_15-30-14_289

10:00 a.m. Update:  The National Weather Service has updated the forecast from an "advisory" to a "Winter Storm Warning" which is in effect until 10:00 p.m. with "wind chill values to zero to ten degrees above zero".   The difference between a warning and advisory is that a warning deems the weather is "occurring or imminent".

Snow has been lightly falling all morning and we do not have the strong north winds as of yet.

Photo from about 7:30 this morning.  The small light snow flakes are constantly coming down with a storm forecasted for this afternoon.

Current updated forecast from the National Weather Service (this does change):

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT WINTER WEATHER WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND POOR VISIBILITY AT TIMES. USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING. HAVE A FLASHLIGHT AND EXTRA WARM CLOTHING IN CASE OF TRAVEL DELAYS
