All about the West Seattle neighborhood around Beach Drive
Yours truly will be at the West Seattle Summerfest helping to man the Alki Community Council booth on Sunday, July 15, 2007 from 12:00 – 1:00. Why don’t ya stop on by and say hello.
Of course this will be after I deliver the Alki Beacon on my paper route!
August 7 is America’s Night Out Against Crime. I think it would be great if we could coordinate and have a block party to get to know our neighbors better, promote safety and crime prevention.
If we are going to have our neighborhood formally participate, we need to let the Seattle Police Department know prior to July 27, 2007.
If you have any ideas on how we can make this a fun event, or if you’re willing to assist in the planning, please let me know.

Hi all, this is my first post on the BDB and I have decided I would write about something I know about… Lunch in West Seattle.
I have been plundering the restaurants of West Seattle since the early 90’s and I loves the lunch! In my posts I am going to be your amateur review dood, I am reviewing Lunch only, even though in WS the lunch and the Din Din are often the same… BUT THIS IS THE LUNCHBOX! I take into account the two most important Lunch elements, Taste and $. The atmosphere… maybe a little, Service… maybe—– ITS LUNCH! food and $ thats what matters. I am Single and I work at home so as you can imagine, lunch is the great escape! So here we GO. THAN BROTHER’S PHO This place has become a favorite! One word……. Simple,Simple,Simple Oh’ and very tasty! (one word three times and an emotion). They have pho and thats it, although it comes in several models… Veggie, Chicken, Meatball and many varieties of beef. The other great thing is that you would have to try hard to spend $10 per person… I find that the small or the Medium is more than enough and both are less than $5… now that kicks $#%. They dont skimp on the basil and shoots either! In an effort to kick it up a notch, you also get a cream filled puff pastry? THAN BROTHERS gets 3 and a half LUNCHBOXES out of 5, I don’t know if their is a five so thats good! So thats my first go around:)

The Alki and West Seattle Community is at an important crossroads as we get ready to bring the newly recast Statue of Liberty back to her home on Alki Beach. We have to make final strategic decisions between two choices:
These are the two basic choices we will be discussing on Wednesday night. In addition, Libby and Paul will outline fundraising plans being considered so people can get a feel for what types of activities may come into play for raising the necessary funds to do the new plaza quickly.
Please bring your lawn chairs, blankets, picnic dinners and/or non-alcoholic beverages as we have this meeting Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM at the Statue site on Alki Beach, west of the Bathhouse.

I just read this article in the Seattle Times about how starting this month, the sidewalks in front of a property is the home owner’s responsibility for maintaining.
"Lots of people are surprised they are responsible, and then there is the reality of how to pay for sidewalk repair when you are strapped with all kinds of other maintenance needs," said Liz Ellis, with the Seattle Department of Transportation Sidewalk Safety Repair Program….
"Generally the city has an easement, but the property itself belongs to the homeowner," said Gregg Hirakawa, spokesman for Seattle’s Department of Transportation.
The easement’s there so the public can traverse what’s actually private property."

Before you head off to Alki to witness the landing of the Seafair Pirates, you may want to brush up on your slang!
Okay, we still need and love Pike Place Market. Last Sunday, we thought we would have time to venture out of West Seattle to Pike Place to pick up some fresh oysters and other goodies for dinner. We ran out of day! And after checking out the goods at the Farmers Market and Seattle Fish Company…we decided to stay in the ‘hood! 
The Seattle Fish Company not only has a huge selection of fresh seafood, they also have wines with pairing suggestions (very handy) and some groceries as well. Our oysters, which were fabulous on the grill, came with a free lemon!
