If there’s anything left…last Saturday, this kind lady who professed to being a BDB reader, told me she would have this garage sale again this Saturday. Stop by the 6700 Block of Beach Drive and tell her you heard about it from BDB!
Alki’s Statue of Liberty’s 9/11 Event
I just received this email regarding Alki’s Statue of Liberty:
Have just talked with Pamela Green, Director of Community Outreach, Mayor’s Office re: details of our great event on Tuesday, Sept. 11th, for rededication of the newly recast statue to her home of 55 years on Alki.
According to Pamela, here’s some of the happenings:
• West Seattle Big Band starts playing at 5:30pm
• During the playing of the ‘National Anthem’ a Honor Guard of
2 Seattle Police Dept. officers
2 Fire Department officers will present ‘colors’
• Mayor Nickels at 6:00 pm
• Tom Rasmussen, City Councilman
• Unveiling of statue
• Fireboat Leschi with water display
• Boy Scout Area Director will be rounding up some local Boy Scout Troops to be in attendance.
• Plus various Parks Dept., city/county officialsWe also have personally invited Fire Station 29 who played such an important role during the memorials on 9/11, and local police officers who also played a big part in the community memorials.
Hope you all can come and join us.
I personally can’t think of a more fitting place to be or thing to do on September 11 if you’re in the Seattle area.

Quick Update re: Beach Drive Block Watch Meeting
The meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, 2007 has been postponed. We have a few neighbors who have committed to participating that will not be able to attend on Tuesday.
I’ve emailed Officer Ben and will let you know when we have this rescheduled.
I apologize for any inconvenience.
The Best Huevos Rancheros in West Seattle
Update September 2008: Blackbird Bistro is closed for business.
This is what my husband told me about Blackbird Bistro located on California in West Seattle. They serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m. and dishing it up until 3:00 p.m. Being a fan of Huevos…I had to see for myself!
I was actually surprised to see that they are indeed open at 8:30 and on a Saturday. What a bonus!
They have a nice brunch menu…however we were set on the Huevuos Rancheros.
My husband was right. They are pretty delish. The tortillas are not fried in grease. They must be grilled or baked crisp in the oven. The beans had a mole flavor–everything just tasted very fresh.
The service was nice, too. Our coffee cups were never empty!
So if you’re looking for a place in West Seattle to have breakfast…check out Blackbird Bistro.

Did you see the lightening?
I tried capturing photos (which is pretty tricky)…the storm appeared to be over Gig Harbor and Vashon Island from our viewpoint. Check out West Seattle Blog for some excellent photos submitted by one of their readers.
Bald Eagle along Alki
A new BDB reader sent these amazing photos to share:
"I was Googling "West Seattle" and found the Beach Drive Blog. I really enjoyed all the pics in the area and just had to share this one. My son lives on Alki Dr. (He’s a West Seattle native.) I was just there the week of Aug. 13 – 21st for his wedding. We were sitting on the front deck at his house and my husband noticed the Eagle perched on the light post in front of his house. Of course, I grabbed my camera immediately. Then the eagle flew down on to the beach a started having lunch. It was such an awesome site! We live in northern Virgina near DC and do not see this kind of wildlife, especially in the city. I took many pics of him munching out but he would not look up. Then my husband starting making whistling noises which was when I took this pic. Well, the camera is gone, (it was stolen out of my luggage) but thank goodness I uploaded the 250 wedding and vacation pics onto my daughter-in- law’s laptop before I left."
Thanks so much for sharing your photos!
