Missing Pet of the Week Photo

Boy…. I feel bad… I know someone emailed me last week with a Beach Drive Pet of the Week nomination and I’ve misplaced it.

I’m so sorry!  I was on vacation last week house boating with our family on Lake Roosevelt and somehow I’ve lost the email in the hundreds I receive from my "day job".

Can you please resend the photo?  Now that I’m back to reality (off vacation) and managing my email–I should be able to get your cute Beach Drive pet posted.

Found Dog

Update 9:00 a.m. the dog has been reunited with it’s family.

This sweet little fella is missing his/her human and was found wandering around 5000 Beach Drive.

Willie, Beach Drive Blog’s Pet of the Week

There’s a special story about Willie that involves our Seattle Night Out from earlier this week.   You see, as our gathering were enjoying each others company, good food and nice weather, an alarm was sounding in the distance.   It was hard to tell if it was a car or house alarm…until someone realized that it was their home on Jacobsen.  Smoke was coming out of the back patio door.  The neighbors bolted and another neighbor at our SNO event called 9-1-1.   Within moments, the neighbor emerged from his home on the patio and gave us a big thumbs up, thankfully.

Willie, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, apparently was real curious about what was in the foil sitting on the stove top.  He jumped up to sniff it out (the foil was previously covering chocolate cupcakes–who could blame him?) and accidently bumped the stove on causing a small fire.   Thankfully, no one was harmed, no damage done and all is fine.

And who could ever be upset at a face like this.

Pet of the Week: Thelma

Dsc_0069

Thelma is one of our three cats and once was recognized as "The Whitest Cat on the Internet".   She has a myspace page (this is how she received the white cat honors) but doesn’t really check it out anymore as she is too busy lounging around the yard, sleeping on the couch and shedding.   Thelma is the same white cat in the Beach Drive Blog banner.

Casey will allow his Humans to leash him for a nice walk.  He also love to go boating and enjoys jumping back and forth from boat to boat when tied up at the end of the day.

Do you have a pet who lives on Beach Drive to submit for BDB POTW?  email me a jpeg photo and you’re pet could enjoy the neighborhood blog-spotlight!

I love it when pets and humans are reunited:

"Our cat Samantha just walked in the door. I have no idea where she was for over 24 hours. We sure are glad to have her home. Thanks for your help."

BDB is happy to help!

Beach Drive Blog’s Pet of the Week: Dino

Dino_2

According to his Human, Dino has lots of admirers and loves all his canine buddies that he sees along Beach Drive every morning and evening on walks.  He was also the inaugural "Pet of the Week" in the West Seattle Herald when that column was unveiled.   Dino is very loving and has the sweetest disposition.  His nickname is the KING, because he is one!

Pet Warning: Watch Out for Foxtails

This warning about foxtails is from Beach Drive neighbor, Sandi:200pxhordeum_murinum_in_voorhis_eco

Last Friday our dog Tazi got into the foxtail plants across from La Rustica and got covered with Foxtail "spikelets". One of the "spikelets" got into his ear canal. He went absolutely CRAZY !!!

We didn’t know what was wrong as there was nothing visibly wrong so we initially thought he had been stung by a wasp or something. Then he went into a state where he just kept shaking his head and crying. We still thought it might be a bee or wasp sting. By about 5 pm, we decided to take him to the Vet and found out it was a Foxtail Spikelet that had worked it’s way down so far that the sharp "point" had contacted his ear drum. If we hadn’t gotten it removed it would have punctured his ear drum. It ended up costing over $350 to get it out of his ear and he had to be sedated because the pain was so bad and it was so close to his ear drum !!!! $85 of the cost was because we took him up Friday night to have it checked AFTER he had eaten, so we couldn’t get it removed that night because the wouldn’t sedate him with food in his stomach. We had to wait until the next day, 120pxhordeum_murinum_spikelet_clustso there was an additional charge as well as the anti-inflammatory and pain killer medicine to get him through the night before we could take him back to the vet on Saturday Morning.

All Pet owners should be aware that this is a VERY DANGEROUS plant and it can KILL a dog or cat if it the spikelet gets into the wrong orifice (and Tazi is short hair). Sandi

Gizmo — Beach Drive Blog’s Pet of the Week

If you live on Beach Drive, odds are you’ve seen (or heard) Gizmo.    He’s a mild mannered sweet dog unless you’re walking by the gate to his yard…a loud series of warning barks just may startle you!

We think Gizmo is G-rrrrific!
