Cherry Tree pests

Do you have Cherry Tree’s in your yard?  Be on the watch for Cherry Bark Tortrix…a nasty little critter that bore their way into the bark to lay eggs which will evolve into moths.   Here’s what one of our tree’s currently look like.

We have three Cherry Trees and all have been hosts to this invader.    We’ve hired Sound Solutions to treat this problem.   I like that they use organic solutions since we have kids and pets.    I’ll keep you posted on our progress!

Notice the sawdust from these pesty bugs chewing into our trees.  🙁

Something fun to do tomorrow…it’s your last chance of the year

Walker1The Walker Rock Garden is amazing and a wonderful way to spend a few moments of your afternoon.    Typically it’s open on Mother’s Day and then re-opens on Father’s Day thru Labor Day…Sunday’s only from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

This Sunday will be your last chance until Mother’s Day.   It’s worth the visit!

The Walker Rock Garden is located at 5407 37th Ave. S.W. , Seattle, Wa 98136.  206-935-3036

I’m seeing red

One red tomato.  This has been my first experience in growing tomatoes and I can’t wait to try eating one!    I simply love my tomatoes from the garden, is there anything better?

Note to self: buy a tomato cage next time.   This thing is growing all over the patio!

Don’t Bug Me!

We saw this critter creeping along the sidewalk on Saturday.   Any idea what it is?

Eeewww…what’s that smell?

Why it’s the Voodoo Lily (aka Dragon Lily) of course!   We have several in our yard…I noticed that one had bloomed yesterday afternoon when my nose picked up the distinct smell of rotting meat.

If you decide to add this to your garden, I suggest planting it away from your doors and patios!

The Walker Rock Garden gets some press

I’ve told you about this neat West Seattle treasure in previous posts.   You can read more details about the Walker Rock Garden in the Seattle Times by clicking here.

Looking for something special to do?

Img_5095 This Sunday marks the first opening since Mother’s Day of the Walker Rock Garden.   It is truly worth a visit and will be open every Sunday until Labor Day from 12:00 -5:00.   There is a donation box for this exquisit backyard located off of 37th and Brandon.

You say tomato, I say…

I’m getting ready to attempt my first tomato garden…along with some lettuce and what ever else grabs my attention at the nursery.    The garden will have to be in containers and I’m trying to figure out the best spot for these delictables where our wild life might leave them alone so we can enjoy "the fruits of our my labor".

Pictured above is Early Girl and Sweet Million Cherry Tomatoes along with some lettuce.   Below is Italian and Curly Leaf Parsley (ya gotta have parsley with your tomatoes).

I just need to plant some Basil and then I’m ready for Bruschetta!  Yummy.

Something different to do this Mother’s Day

Looking for something to do…perhaps walk off some of your Sunday Brunch?   The Walker Rock Garden is open today from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

A tip of the hat to Marlow Harris for posting this on Unusual Life…I wudda never known!

The garden will reopen on Sundays from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. starting June through Labor Day.

Rock on!

Update:  I just had to see it for myself and I’m glad I did.  The daughter was there and told stories about the different things her Dad built and how hard he worked on his art.   To view additional photos that I took for my personal Mother’s Day treat…click here.
