Missing Boat?

DSC_0112
I'm not totally sure if this boat is floating on it's own or secured… my apologies if this is not a missing boat!    The line appears to be floating and not tied as far as my eyes can tell.

This is currently around the 4800 block of Beach Drive.

If you have more information, please comment below.

Car Break-in on Beach Drive: Please Watch for Duffel Bags

This just in from a neighbor who lives on Beach Drive:

Last Friday my son was packing the car to leave for college. Most everything was stolen while we went back up to the house.

  • Two very large duffel bags
  • Two soccer bags
  • An dark canvas type tool bag
  • Guitar
  • Small duffel over gaming stuff.

It is likely that we will not see any of it again, but the duffels of use clothes might be left in the park or on the street somewhere. So please that us know.

If you happen to see large duffel bags or clothing that has been "dumped", please contact me and I'll forward the message.

Please check your dumpsters if you live in a condo or apartment.

Last night’s sunset and the SUN…it’s going to be HOT!

DSC_0124

Last night's sunset was a treat that's beauty partly caused by a fire on the Olypmics.   The cooler evenings are a welcome relief following our recent hot temps.

Speaking of HOT, the National Weather Service has issued a HEAT WARNING through 10:00 p.m. Monday evening.  Note: early the NWS had issued a "heat advisory" which has been reduced to a "warning".   Either way, with temps in the mid to upper 90's–it's hot for us sensitive Seattle-ites who are typically never seem completely happy with the weather ("it's too hot" or "it's too cold").

With ongoing temps in the 90s, it's a good idea to check on neigbhors and make sure you don't have any pets trapped in garages or storage sheds.

From the National Weather Service:

* IMPACTS: THE ELDERLY…CHILDREN…AND PEOPLE WHO WORK OUTSIDE
ARE ESPECIALLY VULNERABLE TO THE EFFECTS OF HEAT. IF PROPER
PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN…HEAT EXHAUSTION OR HEAT STROKE ARE
POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS…STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED
ROOM AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

* CHILDREN AND PETS SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT UNATTENDED IN VEHICLES
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES…ESPECIALLY DURING WARM OR HOT
  WEATHER. CAR INTERIORS

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE HOT TEMPERATURES WILL
CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY.
DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS…STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM…STAY
OUT OF THE SUN… AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

Keep cool and enjoy the weather!

Seafair!

PS: the tours are FREE!

Come check it out before Labor Day!   Here are more of my photos of the Alki Point Lighthouse.

West Seattle Blog has a nice article with more details about the Alki Point Lighthouse.

Seattle Night Out is just 3 Weeks Away!

SNO If you haven't started planning your neighborhood's Seattle Night Out event yet–its probably time to start!  Seattle Night Out is August 3, 2010. If you want to meet neighbors, which is a great way to prevent crime, your "Night Out" doesn't have to be extravagant.   Our area of Beach Drive has done pot lucks in the past and it's been a nice way to stay acquainted.

If you have something planned, send us a shout out.   If you haven't heard from any of your neighbors, why not start one?  Contact a fellow neighbor and create your own Seattle Night Out!    You can register your event by clicking here.

The Seattle Night Out sitehas posters you can print and fliers you can hand out to invite nearby neighbors.   You really just need a place to get together and you can really keep the event simple or create what ever you'd like.   The whole point is getting together and keeping in touch so we're familiar with who our neighbors are.

By the way, if you're an organizer or Captain of a Block Watch in West Seattle, be sure to join this group on Facebook.

Support Your Local Candidate for Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu!

 KelseyButtons
Beach Drive has potential Hi-Yu royality, Miss Kelsey Porter!   Kelsey is a 2010 West Seattle Hi-Yu Senior Court Candidate representing the West Seattle Kiwanis Club.

She says:

"Hello, my name is Kelsey Porter and I'm a candidate for Miss West Seattle Hi-Yu 2010/2011 (a women's scholarship program).   One of our responsibilities is to sell buttons to help support the Hi-Yu Summer Festival.  The buttons are $1 each and feature our theme "Dreams Do Come True".

Maybe you would like one for each member of your family?

Thank you for your support, I greatly appreciate it!

I hope to see you at the American Legion West Seattle Grand Parade on July 24th."
