High Tides at Weather Watch and more

Our intrepid reporter Scupper Sr (aka my husband) has been taking photos of local parks during the high tides.

We’ve been keeping a close eye on the tides and strong winds as our property can flood. If we are preparing for flooding, we do our best to issue a “Barking Dog Report”.  This is a term my husband has “fondly” used to describe yours truly when I’m running around the house, worried about pending trouble – such as flooding. Just like your neighbors barking dog, it’s hopefully much ado about nothing… but you never know!

With the recent redesign of Beach Drive Blog, please be sure to check out the “Swell Links” to the left, which features information about pending weather and tides.  And be sure to follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/beachdriveblog. If we wind up losing power and not able to post info on the blog, you may find more info on Twitter.

Be prepared, stay warm!  Let’s hope we’re not issuing any “barking dog reports” over this holiday weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Support your local Veterans

We just received this email from the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 160

On Veterans Day, November 11, 2012, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 160 is hosting a spaghetti dinner that is free for veterans and their families.

We are also holding a donation drive on November 11 from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm to collect items that will be used to create care packages for a group of JBLM soldiers who recent deployed to Afghanistan, who have been adopted by American Legion Post 160 and Auxiliary Unit 160.  Donation suggestions include, but are not limited to:  toothpaste, shaving cream, soap, non-perishable snacks (beef jerky, cookies, sunflower seeds, etc.), and coffee.  Any cash donations will be used to purchase care package items and/or pay for shipping charges.

Both events will be held at American Legion Post 160, located at 3618 SW Alaska Street in West Seattle.  Please contact the Auxiliary at ALAUnit160@gmail .com with any questions.

This is a great opportunity to show our gratitude to those who have served our country.

Happy Veterans Day!

Possible attempted break-in on Beach Drive

We just received this email from a neighbor around the 4600 block of Beach Drive:

“yesterday I noticed that  there was a gouge mark and a missing chunk off my sliding glass door frame, next to the latch in the back of my house. It looks like someone tried to pry open my back slider…. I also noticed a cigarette butt in my side flower bed…too far away from the street to be a coincidence. Someone had to have been between our two houses smoking…”

This Beach Drive neighbor has notified the police.
