Sunset on the First Evening of Fall

On Twitter, I claimed last night's sunset was an "everlastinggobstopper"…and I think it was!

Beach Drive Blog Pet of the Week: Izzie

Izzie is 8 years old and is a corgi poodle cross. She weighs 12 pounds and thinks she is a princess. Izzie's full name is Isabelle Rose. She likes to sit on the back of the couch and look out the front window, and barks at other dogs and when people slam their car doors. When I let her out, she is supposed to stay in the yard, and mostly does, but occasionally I have to nag at her. What else can I tell you? She amuses me and I get a big hoot out of her.

Do you have a pet who lives in the Beach Drive neighborhood who should be featured as a BDB Pet of the Week?  Just email a photo with their short story.

Attempted Burglary Thwarted by Beach Drive Neighbors

Read all about the potential buglary that may been prevented by watchful neighbors by LaRustica on Beach Drive by clicking here.   West Seattle Blog reports to be on the watch for:

"Please be aware of an adult male (approximate age unknown), about 6-6′2 in height, approximately 180 lbs in weight, wearing a Nike hat, with brown “greasy” hair in a ponytail."

The suspicious vehicles were described as  "a white unmarked van and some kind of tan/gold colored sedan".

This is a great example of why block watches and looking out for each other is so important.

Making It Street Legal

This '65 Chevy which drew extra attention when the owner did not return in time to move his hot rod off the street after the show closed at 4:00 pm today.   The SPD tried opening the street, however with one late closed and all the "looky-loo's", the street was closed again.

A quick phone call to West Seattle Blog put me in contact with one of the shows organizers.

With the owner no where in sight, a group helped the organizer roll the hot rod back onto the street (to hopefully prevent it from being towed).

We were late to the car show since it we were celebrating our daughters 18th birthday.   You can see a few of the photos that I was able to take by clicking here.

Amazing Sunset

Sunsets like this make me pinch myself to make sure I'm still alive and not in heaven.DSC_0038

A Blustery Bumbershoot…Bummer!

P9060009 The other day, I joked on Twitter "What do you call three days of rain followed by a sunny Tuesday?  Labor Day in Seattle".    It's proving to be true.  Yesterday concert go-ers lucked out with sunshine for most of the day–no luck seems to be in the forecast today:

From the City of Seattle Forecast:

TODAY…BREEZY. SHOWERS AND A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 50S TO MID 60S. SOUTH WIND 15 TO 25 MPH.

TONIGHT…SHOWERS LIKELY. LOWS AROUND 50. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 TO 20 MPH.

Puget Sound – Marine Forecast (since I'm posting weather):

…SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING…

TODAY…S WIND 10 TO 20 KT RISING TO 20 TO 30 KT THIS AFTERNOON. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT BUILDING TO 3 TO 5 FT THIS AFTERNOON. SHOWERS AND A CHANCE OF TSTMS.

TONIGHT…SW WIND 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. SHOWERS.

The tides look like they're working in our favor of avoiding having to do a "barking dog report" warning of potential weather issues with a low tide of 2.4 at 12:32 this afternoon and a high tide of 11.2 at 6:44 pm.

West Seattle Blog suggests we check storm drains–good idea!   This also may serve as a reminder to make sure you are prepared for Mother Nature when she's really feeling stormy.

Sounds like a good night to hunker down and maybe make some soup.  What are your plans?

Catch the Evening Light Show in Puget Sound

Last night we had fun watching the bioluminesce as our neighbor paddled around in his canoe (we're easily entertained).   Several times we spied fish going after the plankton as well producing quick darts of glowing light.

Tonight should be another good night to catch the show.

Long Time no Tweet

It's been a while since I've posted anything new here at Beach Drive Blog.  I've been pretty busy with my day job trying to keep with everchanging underwriting guidelines and doing some teaching about social media and writing on my mortgage blog…and our family was on vacation last week.   Occaisally I've been posting on my cooking blog–but it's pretty rare.  Boy, I sound like I'm just full of excuses, don't I?

The fact is, anyone who lives in the Beach Drive neighborhood is welcome to be a writer here as long as what is posted in relevant to our readers.   We don't want "self promotional" articles but a few more reporters/writers at BDB would be greatly welcomed.

If you don't want to write post for BDB, you can help by emailing me interesting stuff.   You can just review the categories to get some ideas… such as:

  • Garage/yard sales and other events
  • Submit your neighborhood pet to be featured as a BDB Pet of the Week
  • Neighborhood photos
  • Local concerns
  • Unusual sightings

Just to name a few….
