More Wind in Store for Tomorrow

Looks like we have some windy weather ahead, which makes me thankful that we took advantage of today's sun to rake up our leaves from the sidewalks and street.

NOAA's forecast for West Seattle:

Tonight: A 40 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 51. South southeast wind between 6 and 10 mph.

Monday: Rain. High near 59. Breezy, with a south wind between 18 and 26 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Current marine forecast for Puget Sound and Hood Canal:

Homes Burglerized on Beach Drive

Just learning via email this morning of a couple burgurlies that recently happened around the 5600 block area of Beach Drive:

The house next door was broken into night before last-it had been empty due to the owner moving back and forth to her new residence. Now we hear that the house 2 doors away from hers was also burglarized.  If I get any more details I will alert you.  

 

 

Weather Not Fit for a Duck…back in 1975

A storm in January 1975 produced 60 mph winds forcing ducks to seek the shoreline of Emma Schmitz  Memorial View Point.

High tide for this morning is just about an hour away at 7:41 a.m. at 11.3.   The next high tide today is a 10.3 at 6:03 p.m.

NOAA's forecast for West Seattle has increased the wind:

Today: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. High near 52. Windy, with a south southwest wind around 39 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11pm, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 46. Windy, with a south southwest wind between 23 and 33 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tuesday: Showers. High near 48. Breezy, with a south southwest wind between 15 and 24 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

The Puget Sound Marine Forecast has increased the waves to 6 ft and has added a GALE warning.  NOTE:  This also includeds Hoods Canal.

Currently, according to a local weather post on Beach Drive is reporting winds around 22 mph.

Tuesday morning's high tide is an 11.3 at 8:25 a.m.

Argosy Christmas Ships

Argosy2008The 2010 schedule is out for the Argosy Christmas Ships.  They will cruise to West Seattle on December 11, 2010 featuring The Dickens Carolers.   Departing Pier 55 at 8:00 p.m., they are scheduled to arrive at Lowman Beach from 8:50 – 9:10 p.m.    The ships will then head to Alki Beach from 9:40 – 10:00 p.m.

The Christmas Ship is sold out for December 11, 2010 however tickets are still available (at the writing of this post) for a Follow Boat, or you can join the flotilla with your own boat.   Of course you can also join neighbors and friends at Lowman and Alki where there's sure to be bon fires and holiday festivities or even enjoy the merriment from your home.

Also Happening Now: Salty’s Half Marathon

This morning at 8:15 a.m. marathoners began a half marathon starting at Salty's at Alki with course going on Beach Drive into Lincoln Park.  

The sidewalks will be a little busier this morning than normal.  We may need to be extra careful when backing out of hidden driveways. 

The marathon ends at 11:15 a.m.

Happening Now: Coast Guard Search for Kayaker off Blake Island

The Coast Guard hellicopter flying over is part of search effort to locate a missing kayaker near Vashon Island and Blake Island this morning.    The Coast Guard was alerted by a Washington State Ferry Tillicum at 6:05 this morning of an orange kayak with a lifejacket and a paddle onboard.
