Raccoon Checking Out the Holiday Lights

DSC_0163
This is the first time I've seen a raccoon in our front yard.  Apparently we had a whole family visit today.

Orcas between Blake and Vashon Island

I cannot think of a better way to begin a morning than to watch Orcas dine on salmon for breakfast…can you?

Did You Hear the Sea Lions

I'm working from home today battling a bug (the classic cold one catches from when the kids return to school).  I noticed some strange, loud barking noises while sitting at my computer.

I ran to the deck and saw what appears to be two sea lions swimming along together.

I wish I had better photos to share with you–it really was quite a sight (and sound)!

Cute Alert: Seal Pup

This photo was submitted by Jan Burkholder who spied this little fella the other day along the shore along Beach Drive.

Two Playful Pups and a Pair of Blue Herons

Total assumption that these seals are pups… they were fun to watch swimming around the sound this morning.

The herons were photographed yesterday.

Bald Eagle

This fella was just south of Emma Schmitz Viewpoint just before our first good gusts of wind.

Loons?

We noticed this pair floating by yesterday.   We followed them along Emma Schmitz hoping to capture a better photo.

Squid?

Through my telescope, I thought I saw a squid during today's very low tide.

You can see how his tenticle goes beyond the lady's right foot.  My hubby thinks it's just a starfish…but through the telescope, this really appeared to look more like a squid.

Did anyone else see this today?

Seal in the Sunset

This fella was calmly floating around the Puget Sound last night.  When we first spied him, he was floating on his side with a flipper straight up in the air…of course by the time we grabbed our camera, he stopped.

Long Time no Tweet

It's been a while since I've posted anything new here at Beach Drive Blog.  I've been pretty busy with my day job trying to keep with everchanging underwriting guidelines and doing some teaching about social media and writing on my mortgage blog…and our family was on vacation last week.   Occaisally I've been posting on my cooking blog–but it's pretty rare.  Boy, I sound like I'm just full of excuses, don't I?

The fact is, anyone who lives in the Beach Drive neighborhood is welcome to be a writer here as long as what is posted in relevant to our readers.   We don't want "self promotional" articles but a few more reporters/writers at BDB would be greatly welcomed.

If you don't want to write post for BDB, you can help by emailing me interesting stuff.   You can just review the categories to get some ideas… such as:

  • Garage/yard sales and other events
  • Submit your neighborhood pet to be featured as a BDB Pet of the Week
  • Neighborhood photos
  • Local concerns
  • Unusual sightings

Just to name a few….
