Fall Brings Blustery Weather – Are you ready?

We woke up around 4:00 this morning to the howling wind and crashing waves. According to the National Weather Service, this is the first of two storm systems.  The second one is coming in on Monday.

From the NWS Special Weather Statement issued at 4:52 am:

WASHINGTON TODAY AND MONDAY… TWO WEATHER SYSTEMS WILL BRING WET AND WINDY WEATHER TO WESTERN WASHINGTON…ONE ALREADY UPON US TODAY AND ONE ON MONDAY. THE FORECAST CALLS FOR SHOWERS TODAY BUT AMOUNTS WILL NOT BE HEAVY. WINDS WILL INCREASE AND MOST AREAS WILL HAVE WIND IN THE 15 TO 25 MPH RANGE… 

THE SECOND STORM…ON MONDAY…WILL HAVE A LITTLE MORE WIND AND A LOT MORE RAIN. LOWLAND AREAS WILL GET A QUARTER TO A HALF INCH OF RAIN AND CERTAIN SPOTS IN THE MOUNTAINS WILL RECEIVE TWO INCHES OR SO. AMOUNTS LIKE THIS ARE UNLIKELY TO CAUSE ANY FLOODING BUT AREA RIVERS WILL RISE SHARPLY MONDAY NIGHT.

REST OF TODAY…BREEZY. SHOWERS AND A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE 60S. SOUTH WIND 15 TO 25 MPH.

TONIGHT…MOSTLY CLOUDY. A CHANCE OF EVENING SHOWERS…THEN A CHANCE OF RAIN AFTER MIDNIGHT. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S TO MID 50S. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 15 MPH.

MONDAY…BREEZY…RAIN. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 50S TO MID 60S. SOUTHEAST WIND 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT…BREEZY. SHOWERS LIKELY. LOWS IN THE 50S. SOUTHWEST WIND 15 TO 25 MPH.

TUESDAY…MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGHS IN THE 60S. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 TO 20 MPH.

TODAY…S WIND 15 TO 25 KT…BECOMING SW BY MIDDAY. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. CHANCE OF RAIN EARLY…THEN RAIN LIKELY IN THE MORNING. SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON.

TONIGHT…SW WIND 15 TO 25 KT…EASING TO 10 TO 20 KT DURING THE EVENING AND BECOMING SE AFTER MIDNIGHT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 4 FT. CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE EVENING…THEN CHANCE OF RAIN AFTER MIDNIGHT.

MON…S WIND 15 TO 25 KT…BECOMING SW WIND 20 TO 30 KT LATE. WIND WAVES 2 TO 5 FT. RAIN.

MON NIGHT…SW WIND 20 TO 30 KT…BECOMING SW 10 TO 20 KT AFTER MIDNIGHT. WIND WAVES 3 TO 5 FT…SUBSIDING TO 1 TO 3 FT AFTER MIDNIGHT.
