Beach Drive neighbors concerned about potential landslides

Just caught on the news and West Seattle Blog about a mudslide that happened in the Alki neighborhood of West Seattle today. The City of Seattle has identified “land slide prone” areas in this map.

Beach Drive Slide Area

We’ve experienced recent landslides along the 6000 block of Beach Drive around Atlas Street.

You can get more information about landslides from the USGS (United States Geological Survey) here – the landslide study on West Seattle is here.

Are you missing a boat?

This small battered boat has washed up along the shores of Emma Schmitz Viewpoint. There does not appear to be any numbers or names to help connect this to it’s owner

Wet and Windy and…of course… Waves

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory through 4:00 am Wednesday morning. We’re currently heading towards a low tide. However at around 3:00 am, an 11 foot tide is predicted with high tide of 11.2 at 3:45 am Wednesday.  The National Weather Service has the winds peaking around midnight, which looks to be around 6:00 ft and should hopefully be a “non-event”.

As my dog was leaving wee-mail on a nearby telephone pole, I thought I was about to read another “missing pet” sign to report on Beach Drive Blog. It was pleasant surprise to see this instead…

These pups are from Setter Ridge Kennels out of Clinton WA. Their website had this to say about the breed…

English Setters love to be with people and have house time. They are very friendly and affectionate dogs and don’t care to be left out in a kennel.

There are 4 females and 1 male to hold, cuddle and admire… just don’t get too attached to these adorable pure-breds if you know what I mean *wink-wink*!

Tis the Season for Wet and Windy Winter Weather

Monday’s storm was probably one of the worst we’ve personally experienced in our seven years living on Beach Drive. I was surprised to see how many neighbors were hit hard.

2012 12 17 08 19 47 739

We typically get an extra dose with having a low driveway and neighbors  with lower bulkheads. This is one of the reasons why we put together our “barking dog” reports… just warn when we are doing extra preparation for possible flooding.  Our built in pump in the driveway is really intended to handle rain and an occasional slurp or splash from the sound.

On Beach Drive Blog, we keep weather related links for your convenience under “Swell Links” to the right.  We have more wet and windy wintery weather ahead!

Scupper’s chase of sirens leads to Ducks

After a day of historic flooding on Beach Drive SW, this was a small fire that the waves didn’t put out tonight…

One of the three fire truck responders told us that a small fire broke out in a planter on the upper deck of this home. Damage was thankfully minimal. Wazzu by-stander had no comment.
