FREE Extra Yard Waste Pick Up November!

Seattle Public Utilities is offering up to 10 additional yard waste bags to be picked up during your regular scheduled collection day with no additional charge.

This offer is good throughout the month of November.

This is an attempt to help keep the drains from getting clogged with leaves.

With the forecasted weather that’s heading our way, including a Gale Warning starting tomorrow at noon through Friday at 12:00 am (as of 11/3/21 12:19pm), clearing the drains is always a good idea!

Wind Storm Round 2

There have been two water rescues for kite-surfers off of Beach Drive today. One was rescued by Me Kwa Mooks Park. The other call out is south on the 5200 block of Beach Drive and may have just been called off. We hope everyone is okay!

We also spied what appears to be a humpback whale and caught some video at Constellation Park near Alki Point.

The whale is still amazing viewers along Beach Drive… as I write this (3:00 pm on Oct 25, 21), its heading south near Lincoln Park.

Round 1 of the Windy Weather…More in the Forecast

This afternoon, the strong winds brought down large branches from our cork screw willow. Thankfully nobody was hurt and no cars were parked here when this happened. Our wonderful neighbors all chipped in to help remove the downed branches.

There is still more wind in the forecast with a small craft advisory in effect through tomorrow night. The current forecast from Wind Alert looks like we’ll be dealing with wind through Wednesday.

Weirdly Warm and Windy Weather

As I write this post (around 2:30 pm on Thursday), it’s about 70 degrees and muggy outside. The breeze almost feels tropical. There’s been a lot of talk of the spectacular system (bomb cyclone) that’s supposed to stay off the coast this weekend… check out what Wind Alert currently has in the forecast!

You can see on the bar along the bottom that we could be in for windy weather for a few days. Sunday has gusts estimated around 51mph. Monday and Tuesday have gusts topping mid-40s. We could have quite a storm if these predictions hold true.

High Tides:

  • Friday: 10.8 feet at 7:15 am and 10.5 feet at 6:04 pm.
  • Saturday: 10.9 feet at 7:57 am and 10.1 feet at 6:31 pm.
  • Sunday: 11.00 feet at 8:40 am and 9.6 feet at 6:59 pm.

Barking Dog Report: Friday set to be a Howler

The forecast for Friday looks very wet and windy. As I write this, Thursday morning, we have a small craft advisory issued for most of the day tomorrow. Here’s a current snapshot from WindAlert for Alki Point:

Tides on Friday go form a low of 0.60 feet at 8:42 AM to 11.25 feet at 4:23 PM.

The Puget Sound Marine Forecast, as of 8:46 AM this morning has wind waves up to 4-5 feet.

FRI  S wind 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 2 to 4 ft. Rain likely.

FRI NIGHT  S wind 20 to 30 kt easing to 15 to 25 kt after  midnight. Wind waves 2 to 5 ft.

SAT  S wind 15 to 25 kt. Wind waves 2 to 4 ft.

Around high tide, if we have gusts in the 30s mostly coming from the south with some southwest and waves of 4-5 feet, we’re likely to see plenty of splashing and possibly water coming over bulkheads.

Some neighbors are already moving their boats to where they will be more protected from the wind and waves.

With this being the first BIG rain of the season combined with the predicted wind, we’re expecting some tree branches to come down too.

Stay safe, Neighbors!

Attention Neighbors with Boats afloat or Umbrellas adorning Decks – Windy Weather Ahead

You’ve probably heard the forecast that we are in for a soaker on Friday. It also looks like we’re in for some wind according to the current forecast from WindAlert.

Just a heads up in case you have a boat out in the sound right now OR if you happen to have your lovely summer umbrellas on your patios before the potentially very gusty winds hit. The above forecast is showing potential gusts up to 44 mph on Friday afternoon around 2pm with the wind not really letting up until Sunday. Of course the weather here is constantly changing… but it’s always good to be prepared.

We’ll have to get closer to Friday to know if the forecast stays true and if there’s a potential for waves to cause flooding. ‘Tis the Season!

Extreme Low Tides this Week

We have some extreme low tides predicted for Thursday at minus 3.88 at 12:10 pm. Today’s low tide was a minus 2.29 when I took this photo around 10:40 this morning. Friday is also set to have a very low tide… just shy of Thursday’s low at 3.86 around 12:57 pm.

This coincides with the super blood moon and lunar eclipse which will take place tonight (or technically early Wednesday morning). It may be unlikely we’ll be able to view this lunar event from Seattle with the potential cloudy skies…we can dream!

Happy Snowy Valentines Day

Posing by the Blue Glass House – Happy Valentines Day!
Giggling kids were playing and sledding along side streets.

Looking south from Emma Schmitz Viewpoint, there is a small snowman on a bulkhead.

Rain-Zilla? Or…

Or is it the all the rain water runoff from Jacobsen and Beach Drive feeding into the overflow system that’s about 150 feet off-shore. In our 15+ years of living here, we have yet to see water spouting out of the storm runoff into the sound…this is a first!

The rainfall has been so intense that it blew off the cover of this manhole on Beach Drive.
