Wind and Rain: Small Craft Advisory

Looks like we could be in for a gusty evening. There currently is a small craft advisory until 2:00 am Saturday.
Puget Sound Tide predictions from NOAA has the next high tides of 12.1 feet at 5:34 pm tonight followed by 11.9 feet at 7:23 am on Saturday.

Puget Sound and Hood Canal- 226 PM PDT Fri Oct 18 2024 SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 AM PDT SATURDAY
TONIGHT  S wind 15 to 20 kt, easing to 10 to 15 kt late. Waves around 2 ft or less. Rain until early morning, then a chance of rain late.
SAT S wind 10 to 15 kt. Waves around 2 ft or less. Rain.

Yes… let’s not forget about the rain!

Batten Down those Sun Umbrellas!

It looks like we’re in for some gusty weather later tonight. WindAlert is currently (3:42 pm) showing gusts of 47 around 11:00 pm tonight.


Combined with lots of (much needed) rain and potential scattered thunderstorms.

Tides are predicted at 11.07 ft at 5:33 pm and 7.46 ft at 10:41 pm followed by 10.20 feet at 3:17 am Sunday.

The forecasts have been very flukey; one moment it’s showing the strong wind and when we check an hour later, it’s backed off.
We are securing anything that could become a projectile…just in case!

A Windy Welcome to June

According to Wind Alert, it’s blowing about 31 mph from the south right now and I believe it! This blustery weather is forecasted to last through tomorrow so you may want to make sure that anything that can take flight in your yard is secured.

As I write this post (7:30 am), there is a Small Craft Advisory until 5:00 am Tuesday morning.


I know I’m not the only person looking forward to the sunny weather that’s coming up this weekend!

8:00 AM UPDATE: Some Beach Drive homes are impacted by a power outage. Seattle City Light expects power to be restored by 11:00 AM.

10:25 AM UPDATE: A Wind Advisory has been issued:

* WHAT…South winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

* WHERE…Portions of northwest and west central Washington.

* WHEN…Until 11 AM PDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS…Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree
limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high
profile vehicles. Secure outdoor objects.

NOTE: The Puget Sound Marine forecast has not been updated since 2:30 am.  And it looks like power may still be out to those homes along Beach Drive per Seattle City Lights outage map.

Windy Weather: Gale Watch and Wind Advisory starting later tonight

The US National Weather Service has issued its first Blizzard Warning for the Cascades and Olympics in over 11 years. While our neighborhood will thankfully miss that experience, it looks like we are in for some windy weather.

A Gale Warning has been issued starting later tonight for Puget Sound and a Wind Advisory is in effect from 4:00 am to 10:00 pm on Tuesday.

The current weather forecast have possible snow on Thursday.

Check out the current forecast from Wind Alert (as I write this at 5:55 am on Monday morning).

High tide for Tuesday, January 9th is estimated at 11.61 feet at 4:50 AM and 11.03 feet at 1:47 PM.

Gale Warning Later Tonight

Hang onto your hats – it looks like we’re in for some gusty weather starting later today. Check out the forecasted gusts in the 40s starting around midnight.

Tides from NOAA show that our next high tide will be around 12 feet at 9:15 am on Saturday (we’re just past high tide as I’m writing this).  Winds are estimated to be gusting around 25 mph according to the graph above at that time. Luckily during the predicted gusts in the 40s, we’ll be at very low tides. Stay tuned!

Gale Warning and Wind Advisory in effect starting tonight

Strong, gusty winds are in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. It looks like tides should be in our favor with a high tide of 9.80 feet at 3:57 am on Saturday and 11.07 feet at 2:52 pm.

Barking Dog Report: Gale Watch through Late Tuesday Night

We had a heck of a storm today with waves that just didn’t seem to stop. Some neighbors agree that it’s one of the worst storms they have ever witnessed living on Beach Drive with the waves and wind.

Tomorrow’s forecast looks like it could be more severe that what we experienced today with gusts predicted up to 50 mph around 4:00 pm.

High tide is an est. 12.90 feet at around 8:39 AM; about when the winds are predicted to start shifting to more south – southwest with estimated gusts of around 40 and heading higher.

Puget Sound Marine forecast has not been updated since this morning.

Barking Dog Report: Wind and Waves Friday

Well… it’s looking like this could be a “Barking Dog Report” with possible gusts reaching 50mph tomorrow according to the current Wind Alert forecast (as of 2:53 pm 11/3/22).


High tide is around 3:02pm Friday at 11.76 feet.

The current marine forecast, from 8:54am this morning has wind waves up to 5 feet tomorrow. We should have an updated forecast soon and I will update this post.

Potential Barking Dog Report: Stormy Weather Ahead

Seasoned readers of Beach Drive Blog know that a “barking dog report” is issued when we think there is a strong possibility of stormy weather about to happen that typically includes waves breeching seawalls. We call it a “barking dog report” because it could be similar to a neighbor’s dog that bark might actually be indicating danger or it could be just something the dog thought it saw (a big nothing). This Thursday is looking like it could be one of those days where dogs will be howling with the wind.

Check out the current forecast from Wind Alert showing gusts in the upper 30s to (almost) mid-40s!

The Marine Forecast is predicting waves up to 7 feet for Thursday!
THU: S wind 25 to 35 kt rising to 30 to 40 kt in the afternoon.  Wind waves 5 to 7 ft.

On Thursday, high tides are 11.58 feet at 7:21 AM (gusts of 39 mph predicted above) AND 11.26 FEET AT 6:02 PM (gust of 38 mph). Yikes!!

Alot can happen between now and Thursday with the weather. Stay tuned…

PS: As I’m writing this (12:18 pm on Tuesday, October 25, 2022), the winds are picking up quite a bit. We do have a small craft advisory in effect until 8:00 pm tonight. The Puget Sound marine forecast states we could see wind waves build to 3-5 feet this afternoon. Fingers crossed that it hits when tides are lower…our next high tide today is a 11.40 feet at 5:32 PM. According to Wind Alert, we could see gusts in the low-30s…so we could see some splashing but I don’t believe it will be near what we may see on Thursday.

This is all a good reminder to be prepared for the fall and winter storms. 🙂 Take care neighbors!

We have a Small Craft Advisory in effect starting late tonight through Monday morning. Wind Alert is showing that it may be very gusty all of Monday.

SUNDAY NIGHT…Breezy, rain. Rainfall amounts a half inch to one inch possible. Lows in the 40s. South wind 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph.

MONDAY…Windy. Showers in the morning, then showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rainfall amounts a tenth to a quarter of an inch possible, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Highs near 50. Southwest wind 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph increasing to 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph in the afternoon.

MONDAY NIGHT…Windy. Showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening, then showers likely after midnight. Lows near 40.

TUESDAY…Breezy. Showers likely in the morning, then partly sunny with a chance of showers in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 50s.

Last but not least… the tides for Monday, April 4, 2022:

  • Low Tide: 4.90 ft at 1:31 AM
  • HIGH TIDE: 10.88 ft at 7:06 AM
  • Low Tide: -0.12 ft at 1:49 PM
  • HIGH TIDE: 10.56 ft at 8:43 pm

If we have winds gusting in the mid-40s with waves 5-6 foot waves, we could see some serious splashing over seawalls. If the current wind forecast is accurate, we might “luck out” with the tides.
