City Pre-Summer Patrol

Hubby, aka the Intrepid Reporter Scupper, and I were on a walk tonight as I was trying to tell him about how the City of Seattle has decided to increase police patrols in seven neighborhoods for pre-summer… and ALKI is not one of them!

As we are walking home, we see a red Ford Mustang flying south down Beach Drive passing another car. We continue our walk to find a bicyclist who was hit by a glass bottle tossed by the window of the Mustang. She reported this to the police.

I am stunned that Seattle would not include Alki on the list of places to patrol pre-summer and I am even more stunned that Seattle would select neighborhoods.  Why not increase Patrol everywhere?

Bikes from the Bike Share program off the shores of Beach Drive

This morning, Scupper spied bikes from a couple of Seattle’s bike share programs that were tossed over the seawall at Emma Schmitz View Point.
I wonder if the bike share companies pay for the removal of the tossed bikes or if the City of Seattle winds up with the bill.

It’s not the first time that I’ve seen the bikes from this program vandalized and left behind as litter.

Explosion on Beach Drive

Around 1:40 a.m. this morning, a unnamed Beach Drive neighbor says they were awoken by a powerful explosion that reverberated through his home. Our intrepid reporter, Scupper says that by the water side Mee Kwa Mooks park, a garbage can was disintegrated and the telephone pole that it was sitting next to is deeply scorched.

Scupper reports that it appears that the hoodlums were planning a party as they left behind several uncooked steaks and hot dogs at picnic table at the park. They apparently left in a hurry after the explosion.

The Seattle Fire Department arrived on the scene just after 2:00 am this morning.

Hopefully these idiots are caught.

Car Stolen from Beach Drive

This morning a neighbor in the 5900 block of Beach Drive woke up to learn their car was stolen.

The thieves left two bicycles on the top of their driveway in exchange for their 2015 Mercedes SUV.

Here is a photo of the bikes. It’s very possible the the bicycles may have been stolen too.

Seattle Police Department Summertime Newsletter

The Seattle Police Department has released their newsletter with very helpful tips on how to stay safe during this hot weather and how to report graffiti.

It also includes a reminder that Seattle Night Out is on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. If you’re neighborhood is hosting a Seattle Night Out party, you’re encouraged to register it with the SPD here.

You can read the SPD’s newsletter by clicking here.

I’ll bet THEIR mellow was harshed!

As many of us were standing at the base of Mee-Kwa-Mooks park last night wondering why a dozen or so fire & rescue units (and more converging within a dog’s howl) were blocking Beach Drive SW, a group of kids were sitting around an illegal fire set 150 yards up the hill in the tinder dry forest.

IMG_4209This freshly created pit wasn’t here during the day yesterday

Can you imagine the scene?? Just sitting around the fire cracking a beer talking about a new carbon fiber hood or up-coming protests when… “are those sirens coming this way?”. Then justified paranoia sets in as the first responder slams on their brakes at the bottom of the hill with another dozen screaming on the way! I can picture the precious PBR’s being sacrificed to the fire in effort to calm the smoke not to mention the already drank ones puddling at their feet.

Last night’s onlookers watching responders searching the waters for false alarm parachuter

I’m pretty certain the kids were mingling with the crowd of on-lookers by this point and relieved that they weren’t “the incident”. There’s only a few really good stories friends get to share together. I’ll bet this is one counts.

All kidding aside though, the fire up in the park appears to have burnt all the way out. One spark the wrong way and we would’ve had a real situation. There was a pretty decent northerly blowing and several houses (friends) bordering the park in harms way.

The old illegal pit circled by the old Schmitz mansion’s concrete retaining wall blocks appears to have been put out of service by purposely fallen trees (what could possibly go wrong with that method?). The dead bush in the foreground is drier than an old Christmas tree in June.

Car Vandalized this morning on 3800 Block of Beach Drive… and more crime…

This just in from a neighbor:

“This morning at 4:45 am on the 3800 block of Beach Drive SW, our car windows (rear and side) were smashed and a very important work suitcase was stolen. The alarm went off & we saw a white car take off driving.”

1:52 PM Update – I just read this on West Seattle Blog:

CARDS STOLEN FROM CAR IN 5600 BLOCK BEACH DRIVE: And used fraudulently, quickly, after the theft in mid-February, over the span of four hours, at a supermarket and three gas stations. The victim hadn’t even had the time to cancel the cards yet.

SPORTS EQUIPMENT STOLEN FROM CAR: At Beach Drive and Canada, a bag containing baseball equipment was taken

License Plates Stolen last week

This is from the West Seattle Blog:

I live down on Beach Drive around Mee Kwa Mooks Park and I had my plates stolen and replaced last week. Through strange twists and turns, my plates were recovered by the Tukwila Police Department and the plates that were nicely put on my car were also stolen from a silver 2002 Honda from West Seattle. The really nice SPD officer who (responded) said they have seen more and more of these types of theft. He said when the thieves switch plates it buys them time since most people don’t check their plates very often (sometimes only once a year to change their tabs).

So just a heads up to your readers to check their plates! The Seattle PD has been investigating more and more of these and say if you discover your plates are incorrect to stop driving and immediately call the non-emergency line for help.

Tires Stolen off Car at 6000 Beach Drive

This just in from one of our neighbors:

tireSometime in the early hours of Friday, December 5, one or more jerks stole three wheels from our car. (They were in the process of taking the fourth, but for whatever reason they didn’t finish the job). The crime occurred in the 6000 block of Beach Drive SW, and a police report has been filed. I know this is highly unlikely, but if you see or hear of 3 wheels for sale, please let me know. The tires are 235/45ZR17 on 17-inch wheels. I have attached a picture of our car after the event, and the one remaining wheel.

We completely understand how our neighbor feels. A few years ago, we had three tires stolen off of our Honda Fit. The creeps, I mean crooks, left our car laying on it’s suspension with just the one tire remaining. I assume somebody drove by causing them to leave the scene.

Please keep your eyes out for these wheels!
