I spy an Eagle eye

Early in the morning yesterday, we awoke to see a bald eagle. It’s not unusual to see them in the tall tree a few blocks away from us located at the most southerly part of Emma Schmitz View Point…however, this is the the first time we’ve seen one on a neighbor’s fence (next door to Beach Drive Bungalow aka Alki Yacht Club).
The eagle had dropped his snack (a fish) on the neighbor’s bulkhead and decided to hang around until a crow encouraged the eagle to move along.

Film Crew on Beach Drive today

Earlier today, we spied a film crew at apartments between Cormorant Cove and Constellation Park.

The infamous ever intrepid reporter Scupper discovered that the movie is a “short film”.

Car launches into a Beach Drive front yard

Just before 7:00 pm tonight, an SUV went out of control and landed in a front yard of a home on the 4700 block of Beach Drive (near Jacobsen Road).
Apparently the man driving lost consciousness and some managed to wind up on the sidewalk, narrowly missing a telephone pole, careening down the sidewalk about 20 feet, passing a parked car on the sidewalk before wiping out a fence and landing in shrubbery. You can see the front end of the car  that was passed on the sidewalk – which appears to be undamaged.

A Beach Drive neighbor who was walking on the west side of the street just saw white fence flying through the air as the accident happened.

The driver of the vehicle was seen alert and talking on his cell phone in the aid car on the way to the hospital.

It’s a miracle that no one was walking on the sidewalk on warm evening like tonight when this all happened.

Tonight’s sunset

This is a classic example of the news we like to report at Beach Drive Blog. 🙂 However, if you have story you’d like to share about Beach Drive life, we’d love the hear it.

EEEKS!!!! If the forecast is correct, we're in for some major wind from
Mother Nature... some good news -- looks like the timing of the tides may
be cooperating.

With that said, we are still preparing to potentially flood...we don't
think it's likely, but would rather be safe than sorry.

The joys of living on Puget Sound!

There’s black gold in them thar hills!

A local neighbor proudly shows off what his truffle snoot’n dog dug up in one of Beach Drive’s parks.

As I was on my routine dog walk (on leash w/ doo bags), a long time resident and park steward stopped me to show the latest treasure unearthed by his Golden Retriever. Apparently this isn’t the first truffle sniffed out of the woods. Rescued at 2 years old, the golden was rumored to have had truffle training before his previous owners had to give him up. Before writing this post, I was sworn to secrecy as to the exact location of the digs but guarantee to have MY dog in truffle school immediately!

Field trip to Beach Drive

You may have noticed the group of students and the school bus by Mee Kwa Mooks on Beach Drive. They are here to study the 43 mile long Seattle Fault line zone that has a portion running through Beach Drive to the Bainbridge Island.

We noticed the group walking by homes along the 4700 block and then heading north. One of the leaders of the group told us this is an annual trip that they typically do in the fall.

It’s reminding me that we really need to get our safety kit ready to be prepared for an earthquake or tsunami.

Power Outage in West Seattle

Several homes along Beach Drive are impacted by a power outage. This Seattle City Light map shows the current outage in West Seattle.

According to West Seattle Blog, this outage is impacting over 4,800 homes and businesses.

...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO 9 AM PST
THURSDAY...

* COASTAL FLOODING...THE COMBINATION OF HIGH ASTRONOMICAL TIDES
AND RELATIVELY LOW PRESSURE COULD PRODUCE MINOR FLOODING ALONG
THE SHORELINES AROUND THE TIME OF HIGH TIDE EARLY THURSDAY
  MORNING.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS...PUGET SOUND...HOOD CANAL...THE
ADMIRALTY INLET AREA...AND THE NORTHERN INLAND WATERS INCLUDING
  THE SAN JUAN ISLANDS.

* TIMING...WITHIN AN HOUR OR TWO EITHER SIDE OF HIGH TIDES. HIGH
TIDES WILL GENERALLY OCCUR BETWEEN 4 AM AND 6 AM.

* TIDE INFO...LOW PRESSURE SHOULD RESULT IN TIDAL ANOMALIES OF 1
TO 1.5 FEET ABOVE THE PREDICTED TIDES.

* IMPACTS...MINOR FLOODING DUE TO TIDAL OVERFLOW. LOW LYING
AREAS NEXT TO THE WATER COULD SEE MINOR FLOODING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY INDICATES THAT ONSHORE WINDS AND TIDES
WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE FLOODING OF LOW AREAS ALONG THE SHORE.

Our highest estimated tide, not factoring the coastal flooding is predicted
to be 11.96 at 4:34 a.m. With the coast flooding, it's estimated we can add
1 to 1.5 feet to the tides.

Inches of Ice on Jacobsen Road

The base of Jacobsen Road towards Beach Drive is covered with inches of ice.

The Seattle Department of Transportation is on the scene. As we have not had real snow in days, I’m guessing this build up of ice is from the natural springs and our freeeeeezing cold spell.

Bundle up and drive safe, friends!
