All about the West Seattle neighborhood around Beach Drive

Earlier today a neighbor reported a man on their bulkhead who appeared to be looking into other Beach Drive homes from the bulkhead.

When approached he said he was just looking at the water however, he was checking out nearby homes. When he was informed he was on private property, he left.
His picture was shown to the construction crew at nearby Emma Schmitz Viewpoint and they thought he looked like a person who had broke into a subcontractors truck, stealing a gun and wallet.
This person is described as wearing a navy blue Mariner’s sweatshirt with a hoody, black sweatpants tucked into white socks. Rough 40-ish, white with graying dreadlock type hair and smoking a cigarette.
This just in from a Beach Drive neighbor:
During the big windstorm two nights ago a neighborhood floating sea life dock broke loose and floated away. My husband has walked up and down Beach Drive looking for it, to no avail.
It’s approximately 8×8 and has the letters “ADM C” on it.
Please comment if you have seen this and we’ll connect you with the owners.
Thanks, Neighbors!
Happy New Year, Neighbors!

Or is it the all the rain water runoff from Jacobsen and Beach Drive feeding into the overflow system that’s about 150 feet off-shore. In our 15+ years of living here, we have yet to see water spouting out of the storm runoff into the sound…this is a first!
The rainfall has been so intense that it blew off the cover of this manhole on Beach Drive.
EDITORS NOTE: This video was submitted by a neighbor. I promised not to mention who. 😉
The wind was really howling this morning. Our home was lucky that the winds tapered off just before the high tide at 7:30 this morning. We have more strong winds predicted this week. Check out this forecast from Wind Alert

You can see by the bottom row that most of Saturday and into Sunday, winds are predicted to be very strong with gusts in the 40s. If you live on the water or enjoy water activities, I highly recommend getting downloading Wind Alert to your phone or computer…it’s been very handy for us!

We’re kicking off fall with a “barking dog report”. It’s been a while since we’ve issued a barking dog report so here’s a quick refresher. Whenever we’re preparing for serious weather, typically with the potential for flooding or strong winds, we try to issue a “barking dog report”. You can consider it similar to your neighbors dog who might bark to give a warning…it could be nothing or it could be something to be concerned about. For the record, Scupper and I are not weather experts. 🙂
We are checking out the upcoming forecast which seems to have long periods of strong winds starting in the wee hours tomorrow morning through Sunday. Check out the current graph from WindAlert.

Luckily it looks like the upcoming tides won’t be high enough to cause flooding (at least not with our home).

Hopefully this storm just provides some spectacular splash. Stay safe, Neighbors!
