Our next high tide is 11.2 feet at 4:22 am and then an 11.9 at 2:54pm.  Hopefully this report is just your like your neighborhood barking dog and nothing more…but since we try to keep up with this stuff, just thought we’d share it with you.

Barking Dog Report: Howling Winds through Wednesday morning with High Tides

With the next high tide happening right now (2:22 pm @ 11.8) I think we’re going to Istock_000002610704medium_1 escape a "barking dog report" for today.  However I am a little concerned about the following high tides: tomorrow morning at 4:22 am @ 11.2 and again at 2:54 pm @ 11.9 feet.  Combine the high tides of 11.2 at 4am and howling 30mph winds gusting up to 40mph…I think it’s worthy to bark about.

International Geologist touring Beach Drive

Pa270051

You may have noticed a tour bus with a large group wandering along the waterfront of Mee Kwa Mooks down to Beach Drive and Jacobsen.  Apparently it is a group of American and Japanese geologist studying earthquakes and tsunami’s and they stopped here for a tour before beginning their conference.   The geologist that I briefly taked to stated that they are interested in this area because of the similarities to California and Japan.

Speed Limit 30 – 30 – 30 – 30

Sept15_003_2

I’ve written about speeders on Beach Drive before so you can imagine my glee that we   now have one of those flashing spedometers across from Emma Schmits View Point.   I just noticed it while walking the pooch.   More to follow.

Update ~ October 9, 2008 8:30 am:  Out for my morning walking of the dog…I can hear cars slowing  down as the approach the automated speed limit sign.   It’s working!

Did You See Green Suburu Speeding on Beach Drive?

This just in…I’ll update this post as I get more information.  Keep an eye out for a green Suburu Forester with a broker mirror.

"….as my son was loading up his car this morning along Beach Dr, a green Subaru Forester was speeding by and actually hit the door of our car, (just missing my son) and broke off the Forester’s outside mirror.    Of course the speeding car did not stop. Unfortunately my son did not get a license plate number."

Update: the broken mirror is on the Suburu’s passenger side and the event happened on the 6500 block of Beach Drive.   If you spot a car matching this description, please contact the Seattle Police Department.

Burglary on Beach Drive

The suspect was caught…it happened this afternoon in a "secure" condo.   To get the full scoop, read about it on West Seattle Blog.

At the Seattle Night Out event last month, the SPD mentioned that many burglaries happen during warmer weather because of people leaving doors and windows unlocked.  In fact, they warned of increased incidents where people were gardening in their front yards while someone would sneak in through the back and snatch a purse (or something else quick).  I have no idea if this is what happened this afternoon.   At the very least, it’s a reminder for all of us.

Seattle Night Out — A Nice Time to See Neighbors

P8050002

Beach Drive had a nice pot luck at our Night Out event and were visited by several of Seattle’s finest police officers.

Apparently the latest crime trends in our area are:

  • portable navagation systems and laptops being stolen from cars.
  • stolen landscaping (such as fountains)
  • new construction sites are being targeted.
  • break ins through back doors left open during the hot weather while someone is gardening in the front yard.

I know we really enjoyed seeing neighbors we thank Alyson for sharing her yard and making this event possible.   Watch for recipes on future posts from the delish potluck dishes.

Were there other Seattle Night Out events in Beach Drive?  Please let me know.

Don’t forget Seattle Night Out is TONIGHT!

I’m looking forward to seeing all our neighbors at tonights event.  Do you have a SNO event planned in your block/area?  It’s not too late to call your neighbors or go door to door and plan a quick get together–what a fun excuse to say hello and enjoy a beautiful sunny evening!
