Last Friday, a couple Beach Drive neighbors near Mee Kwa Mooks Park encountered a woman who was mentally not well. She broke into a small boat that was covered on a property and really made a mess of it… I’ll spare you the details. Half-naked, she locked herself in a porta-potty for hours and the police were unable to do anything about it. She left behind a backpack with stolen property which has since been returned to the owners.
Not to long before this event, we had a neighbor ask what can be done about people who are staying along Beach Drive in their campers, cars or camping in Mee Kwa Mooks Park. Lisa Herbold’s office recommends:
There are three ways to file a complaint regarding the concerns like garbage removal, needles, or to report an unauthorized encampment (either tent encampment or RVs)
- online: Service Request Form
- mobile: Find It, Fix It mobile app
- phone: 206-684-2489 (CITY)
I want to make sure that you understand the types of responses that may (or may not) result when you file a complaint.
Here are some possible resources for people who are experiencing homelessness or crisis in Seattle.
Of course, if you are in danger or if a crime is being committed, call 9-1-1.
Police unable to do anything about it? We are talking about trespassing and vandalism here, not to mention theft. Obviously the most important thing is to elect a new district one representative, as Lisa Herbold is largely responsible for the policies that have brought us here.
In the meantime, we have to be very aggressive about reporting via the various methods available to us, and continuing to report, daily if necessary, the illegal camping at the park! If we do not, and word gets out among the vagrants that this is a place where they can stay. This is going to become a real mess!
I’m amazed SPD could do nothing. We’re talking trespassing, vandalism, and theft here, aren’t we?
We need to be on top of the growing population of vagrant campers at the park. I currently count one tent (behind the outhouse), and a three-car convoy of car campers. We need lots of reports called in to Find It/Fix It, and the Seattle Parks illegal camping report number (206-684-2489). We also need to write our D1 representative, Lisa Herbold, to demand the city enforce the law and do its job. Also remind her that we vote.
I don’t know how much result we’ll get from her. Herbold is largely responsible for the current state of affairs. We need a more moderate D1 rep, not a ‘woke’ SJW.
If we don’t nip this issue in the bud now, it’s only going to grow. At that point, all I can suggest is secure your stuff as best you can and keep your doors and windows locked.
