… and if that wasn’t enough excitement to float your boat, the short Spotted Shrimp season starts this Saturday morning! A good local shrimp hole is along the NE side of Vashon Island. Get you telescope out and check out the hundred or so boats pulling up the scrumptious booty from 250 feet below the surface. These fine crustaceans are considered some of the finest shrimp in the entire world!!

The idea comes from an unknown kind soul that planted a purple bowl beneath the drinking fountain last year for all our 4 legged friends to drink out of. That bowl must have blown away during one of the winter storms so… we want to pay it forward this year with a stainless dog bowl in memory of an old friend named Orson that used to hobble (on a good day) out to that section of Emma Schmitz park. Rain or shine, bring your walking buddy out to the fountain at 7:00 tomorrow night for the first slurp of the season!

Updated Information!

Hi Rhonda,

Thanks so much for the coverage of seal pup Shamrock at Emma Schmitz yesterday. However, I thought your readers would want to know that all harbor seal pups right now are weaned and anywhere from 6-8 months old. There are no pups waiting for mom to come back for them as reported in the post.

Harbor seal pupping season is late June – September in Puget Sound. Seal pupping season will be beginning, however, shortly on the outer coast of Washington and Oregon. Here is a link to a map that shows months pupping seasons in the various regions of Washington State:

My name is Charlie. I live at 54th & Alki. I am a 3-year-old orange and white fixed male cat, and I went missing on Thursday 07 March around 8:00PM. I am an indoor cat, and if I ever get outdoors I usually hide, making it difficult for you to see me. I am pretty skittish around other cats and animals, but am known to be pretty vocal when called by name. I would really like to be returned to my home, so if you have seen me recently or know where I am, please contact my owner.
